DALIAN, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Thursday that the World Economic Forum (WEF) is helpful in gathering confidence for fighting global economic downturn. Wen made the remarks while meeting with WEF chairman Klaus Schwab on the sidelines of the the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2009, also known as the Summer Davos.     The three-day forum, held in northeastern China's port city Dalian, has attracted some 1,400 participants from 86 countries and regions to discuss topics about the theme of "Relaunching Growth". BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to advance cooperation with Turkey in combating terrorism to better fulfill the common task of safeguarding national unification and territorial integrity and opposing separatism, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Sunday.     Yang made the remarks when meeting in Beijing with Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan, who paid the visit to China as special envoy of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The visit "indicated Turkey's political will to further its relationship with China," Yang said during the one-hour meeting, adding China attached great importance to promoting the ties with Turkey.     China was ready to strengthen the bilateral relations on the basis of universally recognized norms of international relations, he said. The two countries enjoyed long-standing coordination in security fields including anti-terrorism, Yang said.     China would work with Turkey to boost the cooperation in this regard, so as to better carry out the common task of safeguarding national unification and territorial integrity and opposing separatism, he said.     Yang also said that the July 5 riot in Urumqi was neither an ethnic problem nor a religious issue, but an incident plotted and organized by the "East Turkestan" separatist forces both inside and outside China. It had a profound political background.     The riot, taking place on July 5 in capital of the northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, left 197 people dead and more than 1,600 others injured.     Yang said the "East Turkestan" separatist forces' nature and harm was disclosed in the riot as it seriously jeopardized the lives, property of the Chinese people of various ethnic groups, and the local stability.     The measures taken by the Chinese government to deal with the incident according to law won wholehearted support of the local people of all ethnic groups, Yang said.     Caglayan reiterated Turkey's adherence to the one-China policy and its respect for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.     The two peoples had a long history of friendship, and the two countries enjoyed "sound cooperation" in areas such as fighting terrorism, Caglayan said, adding Turkey would like to keep close contact with China in this area.     "Turkey will endeavor to develop a strong relationship with China, through deepening bilateral cooperation," he said.     Caglayan, who arrived in Beijing Saturday, also said the success of Turkish President Abdullah Gul's visit to China in June had exerted profound influence on the bilateral relations.     During his four-day stay in China, Caglayan was also scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and visit Xinjiang, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry.

BUDAPEST, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met here Friday with Hungarian President Solyom Laszlo, and put forward a four-point proposal to help further bilateral relations.     The Chinese vice-president proposed to maintain high-level contacts aimed at cementing friendship, to enhance economic cooperation and investment aimed at balancing trade, to improve personnel exchanges aimed at furthering understanding, and to join hands in promoting a healthy development of China-European Union relations. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China honored a common officer, who devoted himself to his work as a file clerk at the military archives, at a ceremony held here Sunday.     Liu Yiquan had worked as a clerk and then a consultant at the archives of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for about 38 years. He had processed more than 830,000 pieces of military archives. ZHENGZHOU, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities began Sunday relocating the first batch of rural residents totaling 10,600 in central Henan Province to make way for one of the three routes of the country's massive South-to-North Water Diversion Project.     The residents in Xichuan County will move to 10 newly-built villages in 10 different counties of Henan, and the project is expected to be finished by Sept. 10, according to the relocation plan designed by the Henan Provincial Office of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.     They need to move away from the Danjiangkou Reservoir, a water control pivot along the middle route of the diversion project, as the reservoir dam is being heightened to hold more water and ensure water supply for the diversion project, the plan said.     "I am happy to move to a new, larger home," said Zhang Faxiang, whose family was transferred to a new village in Xuchang County Sunday.     He said concrete roads were built in the new village, which are not commonly seen in central and western Chinese villages. The local government has provided tap water, methane gas for them and built primary schools, recreation centers and other public facilities.     According to the relocation plan, more than 320,000 people in Henan and neighboring Hubei Province will move away from the Danjiangkou Reservoir. Hubei authorities plan to relocate 12,000 people this year.     The South-to-North Water Diversion Project, one of the world's largest water project, is an effort to divert water from China's rainy south to its dry north. It has three routes: the eastern, middle and western ones.     The State Council, China's highest governing body, approved the ambitious project in December 2002 after a half century of debate.
