SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego runners take off in the first of three races this year as part of the Triple Crown series.The set of runs includes the Carlsbad Full or Half Marathon on Jan. 19, La Jolla Half Marathon on May 26, and America's Finest City Half Marathon on Aug. 16.To join the Triple Crown series, runners need only register to finish each event in the same calendar year, beginning in Carlsbad. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Stopping aggressive behavior before it starts is one of the many goals for schools within the San Ysidro School District.The San Ysidro School District partnered up with the District Attorney’s office to teach staff members restorative practices in school. These practices help students deal with their emotions and understand their behaviors.Kids take a few minutes a day to express how they feel and address different topics like who they trust and why. This practice is a way to swap punishment and instead provide support in hopes of reducing crime, bullying, and violence.RELATED: Bullying a major concern as kids go back to school“This is giving these students an opportunity to be more successful because when emotions get involved and you don’t know why you have them, and you don’t know how to deal with them that’s when a lot of students get in trouble,” said Manuela Colom-Ramirez.The District Attorney’s office and the and the San Ysidro School District hope this program provides an action plan guideline for students, staff, and parents.“It’s all under the philosophy that when you are doing with, rather than to, you are going to get more inspired kids, you are going to get more inspired youth, and we are able to build a more sustainable community,” said Khemal Johnson. 1319

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a photo Friday of a suspect wanted in the death of a woman in Point Loma.Joe Bennette Conway, 41, shot the unidentified woman in the parking lot of 4013 W. Point Loma Blvd. late on the night of October 9, police said.911 dispatchers received a call about the shooting. Police units found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, where she died.Police identified Conway as the murder suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Conway is 5’7” tall and 150 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six candidates for San Diego's next mayor met on the debate stage Friday to discuss the city's housing and homelessness crises.The solutions for San Diego's affordable housing challenges ranged across each candidate, which included State Assemblyman Todd Gloria, Councilman Scott Sherman, City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry, activist Tasha Williamson, computer tech Rich Riel, and family nurse practitioner Gita Appelbaum."Let's get real about this. This is strictly a supply and demand issue. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s violent crime rate fell in 2018 while the city’s overall crime rate rose. According to an early report from the Brennan Center for Justice, San Diego’s violent crime rate fell by 0.7 percent. Overall, however, crime is up. San Diego’s crime rate rose by 3.4 percent from 2017 to 2018. RELATED: City turns to community leaders to reduce crimeThe report looked at the Nation’s 30 largest cities. While San Diego’s overall crime rate was up, most other large cities saw a major reduction in crime. New York City saw a nearly 2 percent decrease in crime while Los Angeles saw a 3.3 percent reduction. Meanwhile, Chicago, a city known for its crime, saw a 9.5 percent increase in crime. In contrast, San Francisco saw a 9 percent decrease in crime.
