Rolfe's partner, Officer Devin Brosnan, first encountered Brooks after Brooks had fallen asleep in his car while waiting in the restaurant's drive-thru line.Rolfe arrived on the scene a few moments later. The officers subjected Brooks to a field sobriety test, which he failed. He later offered to lock his car and walk home, but Brosnan and Rolfe told Brooks they would be taking him into custody.As the officers attempted to handcuff Brooks, a struggle ensued. Brooks was able to grab Brosnan's stun gun and attempted to flee the scene. As he fled, Brooks appeared to point the stun gun in the direction of the police. That's when Rolfe shot Brooks in the back. Brooks later died in surgery at a local hospital.Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard says Rolfe kicked Brooks after shooting him but before calling for emergency medical help. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating a multi-state outbreak of campylobacter infections linked to contact with puppies sold through Petland, a national pet store chain.Campylobacteriosis, a common bacterial infection, can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever, according to the CDC.As of Sept. 11, a total of 39 people have fallen ill in seven states, including 11 cases in Florida, five in Kansas, one in Missouri, 18 in Ohio, two in Pennsylvania, one in Tennessee and one in Wisconsin. There have been nine hospitalizations and no deaths reported. The first case within this outbreak occurred on September 15, 2016.Symptoms, which typically begin within two to five days after contact with the bacteria, last around a week, though some people don't experience any signs of illness.While many cases go unreported, about 14 cases for every 100,000 people are diagnosed each year in the United States, according to the CDC. Overall, campylobacteriosis -- which occurs much more frequently in the summer months than in the winter -- is estimated to affect over 1.3 million persons every year.Almost every patient recovers within five days without treatment, though drinking extra fluids is recommended. In rare cases, an infection can lead to complications, including paralysis and even death.People with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and people with cancer or other severe illnesses, are most at risk for a serious infection.People sickened in the current outbreak range in age from younger than 1 year to 64 years old.Most -- 28 of the 39 -- are female and 12 are Petland employees. Of the total, 27 either recently purchased a puppy at Petland, visited a Petland, or visited or live in a home with a puppy sold through Petland."The CDC has not identified any failures of Petland's operating system that would lead to any campylobacter infection," Elizabeth Kunzelman, a spokeswoman for the company, said in an email. The girlfriend of the man killed Thursday after a shooting in a Nashville mall was taken into custody on gun charges. According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, Alexandria Lavender was arrested on two counts of theft of property, ,000 or less, and unlawful gun possession for having two stolen guns with her. The shooting happened just before 2:30 p.m. local time Thursday inside a hallway near an Auntie Anne's pretzel shop, just across from an Old Navy store. Police said two men – identified as Justin Golson and Demarco Churchwell – got into an argument that led to gunfire.Churchwell was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died. Golson was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. According to police documents, Churchwell’s girlfriend – Alexandria Lavender – was with him as he was being extracted from the mall. A witness said she had a gun in her purse, which police said could be seen in plain view from the top of the bag. Authorities said she did not have a valid handgun permit. The guns were checked by police records and were found to be reported stolen out of Dickson and Davidson counties.   1238

The Department of Defense announced on Friday the formation of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, which will be tasked with looking into reports of UFOs.The Pentagon says that task force’s mission is to detect, analyze and catalog unidentified aerial phenomena, better known as UFOs, that could potentially pose a threat to U.S. national security.“As DOD has stated previously, the safety of our personnel and the security of our operations are of paramount concern,” the Department of Defense said. “The Department of Defense and the military departments take any incursions by unauthorized aircraft into our training ranges or designated airspace very seriously and examine each report.
