Former ESPN president John Skipper says he abruptly resigned from the network late last year because he was being extorted by a cocaine dealer.In an in-depth interview with The Hollywood Report's James Andrew Miller, Skipper recounted his substance abuse issues and the decision to leave the network.Skipper told Miller that he used cocaine intermittently throughout his professional life. He says the habit began before he joined ESPN in 1997, but maintained that his drug use never interfered with his work, outside of "a missed plane and a few canceled morning appointments."Skipper also said he was "unusually clever" in finding ways to buy cocaine so as not to attract attention to himself. That changed in December, when he says someone he had not dealt with before attempted to extort him for purchasing drugs."It turned out I wasn’t careful this time," Skipper told Miller.Skipper immediately informed Disney CEO Bob Iger of the threat."When I discussed it with Bob, he and I agreed that I had placed the company in an untenable position and as a result, I should resign," Skipper told Miller.On Dec. 18, Skipper shocked ESPN employees by announcing his resignation, citing substance abuse issues. Following a three-month break from the campaign trail, President Donald Trump told reporters from the White House pool on Wednesday that he is planning to resume campaign rallies soon.An exact date and location for upcoming rallies isn’t available yet, but Trump said that he has visits to Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina on his schedule. Trump and rival Joe Biden were forced off the campaign trail in March as the coronavirus began to spread in earnest throughout the US.The CDC still recommends against large gatherings of 250 people or more,, and some states are still seeing an increase of coronavirus cases. One of those states is Arizona, where the state’s governor has told hospitals to prepare to go over capacity as the state is seeing a surge in coronavirus-related hospital stays.Trump’s announcement comes on the heels of reports that the Republican Party is planning on moving its convention to Jacksonville, Florida, from Charlotte, North Carolina, as the state’s governor would not commit to lifting a ban on mass gatherings at the time of the August event. 1092

(KGTV) - The former Camp Pendleton Marine accused of supporting a Christmas Day terror attack at San Francisco's Pier 39 popular tourist destination was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison.Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, pleaded guilty to the plot in June. He supported radical ISIS jihadi beliefs, wrote social media posts supporting terrorism, communicated with people he believed supported his views, and offered to provide services to them with a tow truck, according to a report written by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney.A confidential source alerted the FBI last fall to a Facebook account Jameson ran, agents said.  Jameson “liked” and “loved” posts that were pro-ISIS and pro-terrorist, the source told the FBI. Among the posts was a picture of Santa Claus standing in New York with a box of dynamite.RELATED: Ex-Marine who planned Christmas Day terror attack pleads guiltyJameson met with an FBI undercover employee he believed to be associated with ISIS and described his interest in planning and undertaking a violent attack in San Francisco, the report said.Agent McKinney said James specifically mentioned Pier 39 in San Francisco because he had been there before and knew it was a densely crowded area.According to the undercover agent, Jameson said he wanted to use explosives and “funnel” people into a location where he could inflict casualties. He said he needed ammunition, powder, tubing, nails, timers, and remote detonators. Jameson planned to go to the mountains and build the devices at a remote campground, then store them at his home in Modesto, said officials.A search warrant was executed at Jameson’s Central Valley home on Dec. 20. Investigators found his will and a handwritten letter. Florida State University held a vigil Sunday night for the two women fatally shot at a Tallahassee yoga studio Friday as investigators try to establish why the alleged gunman opened fire.Scott Paul Beierle, 40, posed as a customer when he walked into Hot Yoga Tallahassee on Friday evening and fired a handgun without warning, police said.The yoga students fought back, police said, but two women were killed and five people were wounded. The gunman had fatally shot himself by the time officers arrived.Tallahassee yogis as well as the health care and college communities are mourning the victims: Maura Binkley, 21, and Nancy Van Vessem, 61.On Sunday evening, FSU students and faculty came together for a vigil honoring Van Vessem -- a faculty member -- and Binkley, a student.The crowd gathered on Langford Green on Sunday evening and held up battery-powered tea candles that flickered under an overcast sky as a small choir sang, "Hymn to the Garnet and Gold.""Our hearts are broken as we gather to mourn the loss of two members of our Florida State University family and offer prayers for those who were injured and affected by this horrific attack.
