SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man who was armed with a gun when he beat, choked and raped two women in 2016 on consecutive nights was sentenced Tuesday.Jeremiah Ira Williams, 26, was sentenced to 100 years to life, plus 86 year, in state prison after being convicted on May 1 of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, burglary and making a criminal threat.Deputy District Attorney Trisha Amador told jurors that Williams followed the first victim from a parking structure to her apartment on August 13 of 2016.Jane Doe 1 was afraid when Williams asked her "Where's your husband?" as she approached her front door, the prosecutor said.Williams then knocked her down, robbed her at gunpoint and choked her, Amador said. Once inside, Williams beat the victim before raping her and forcing her to take a shower before he left.The following day, Williams beat and raped a woman working as a prostitute after meeting up with her at a motel in Grantville.Williams got on the bed and asked Jane Doe 2, "Do you want to know what it feels like to die?" He then choked the victim until "she saw stars," then raped and sodomized her, according to Amador, who said the woman was so terrified that she broke a window and jumped through it to get away.Williams’ attorney, Deputy Public Defender Thomas Bahr, told the jury that police had a feeling the two rapes were connected and jumped to conclusions.Bahr alleged that Jane Doe 2 lied throughout the investigation, arguing that her story had inconsistencies.The defense attorney alleged that Jane Doe 2 asked a detective “Can I Sue him (Williams) for beating my (expletive.)” 1616

It’s a 1974 single family home in San Carlos. The before and after photos are striking. Same with the bathrooms. Zuniga says the key is never cutting corners in the remodel. If you want to flip instead of flop, the investor must impress the buyer. And if you’re going to flip, that’s the other key. The house must move quickly. “We’re in the market of the moment, and we priced to sell,” says Lisa Becker. She’s also Zuniga’s agent and helps him find investment properties in San Diego. Together they only buy single-family homes in the mid-level range to reach a much larger pool of potential buyers. And, their method works. “So, this particular property, on the market less than a week, we had four offers,” says Becker.That’s right, four offers in less than a week. Flipping or not, time is of the essence for the seller. In November when Zuniga bought the house, Becker figured after renovations it could sell for 0,000. Fast forward to the end of February, with more homes on the market, suddenly the home is valued at 0,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The new community plan for Kearny Mesa, given final approval by the City Council earlier this week, takes effect Friday. Several properties are being rezoned with 27,000 new housing units planned for those parcels.“My vision is that within five years, you’ll be able to live on Convoy, enjoy the restaurants and the shops that are on Convoy, and work in a job in Kearny Mesa, all in one community," City Councilmember Chris Cate, who represents the area, told ABC 10News ahead of the final vote.Cate says the city is trying to encourage a"live-work" village concept for many San Diego neighborhoods, especially those that are major job centers, such as Kearny Mesa. The idea is that by creating housing and recreational possibilities in the same communities where people work, they will have to commute less. That has numerous benefits across the city, including less traffic and car pollution.It is anticipated that many of the new projects will replace aging strip malls whose parking lots remain vacant much of the time. Cate hopes the areas around Convoy St., Clairemont Mesa Blvd., and Aero Dr. will become similar to the feel of Little Italy.Because parameters have already been set for how many homes will go onto each affected parcel, as well as other necessities such as pathways, street improvements, and parks, there will not be the same drawn-out approval process that has been seen with other recent attempts at development. Cate says that means developers who acquire the land will be able to move quickly, as long as their design stays within the parameters of the community plan. “They already have an understanding of what these projects will look like, what’s required of them, where different pathways or parks will go. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday it is extending a ban on cruise ships operating in U.S. territory through September.The ban was set to end next week, but the agency extended the ban as coronavirus cases rise in 40 states.Florida and California, where many cruises originate or end, both set records for new daily COVID-19 cases recently.RELATED: As cruise ships idle, San Diego region lost up to millionThe CDC says the ban on cruise ship operations will be in effect until, "the expiration of the Secretary of Health and Human Services’ declaration that COVID-19 constitutes a public health emergency," "the CDC Director rescinds or modifies the order based on specific public health or other considerations," or Sept. 30.Some cruise lines had already canceled scheduled sailings until Sept. 15 over ongoing discussions with federal officials on how to restart business safely, the Associated Press reported.The Port of San Diego estimates that each cruise ship that visits San Diego generates about 0,000 in regional economic impact, including local shopping, restaurant businesses, and other expenses.Nearly 30 cruises were canceled due to the pandemic, costing about million in lost revenue for the Port of San Diego alone, according to Brianne Page, a public information officer for the Port of San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is trying to stop people from driving onto the Ocean Beach Pier, recently installing plastic pylons. The city recently installed the pylons at the foot of the pier after a car sped onto the structure, hitting two people and a police cruiser in June. The pylons are the first step, but the city says it’s still considering additional options to discourage people from driving onto the pier. "This City is still evaluating additional options to discourage the public from driving their vehicles on the pier." 777
