BOULDER, Colo. — Employees at the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management facility have seen quite a few changes over the years.The facility acts as a collection for the hazardous materials people use in their households. The center collects, separates and then safely disposes of chemicals, batteries and other items that are too dangerous to simply throw away.“Cleaning products, garden products, pool and spa chemicals, things like that,” program manager Shelly Fuller said.The list of items the facility accepts is quite long.“Latex paint, any cleaning products from your home, fluorescent lightbulbs — a lot of times you’ll have the four-footers or even the curly cues that are CFLs, so they all contain mercury,” Fuller said. "Pesticides, herbicides, rodenticides, fungicides, oil and antifreeze.”Fuller has been working at the facility for about six years and has been working with hazardous waste management for about 10 years.She said she’s seen some interesting items pass through the facility over the years.“We had some breast implants come in because of the silicon and formaldehyde they were in. We had snakes that someone had picked up off of the side of the road and wanted to keep as a specimen. Last year we got a jar of teeth,” Fuller said.Lately, though, employees at the facility have been dealing with a new challenge — vape products have been coming in by the pound.“In the last couple months, we’ve received about five pounds of e-liquid. BERLIN, Germany – The U.S. Air Force is investigating the death of two servicemen who died at a base in Germany last week.Airman 1st Class Xavier Leaphart and Airman 1st Class Aziess Whitehurst were found unresponsive in a dormitory room at Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The men, both aged 20, were pronounced dead shortly afterward. Both deceased Airmen were assigned to the 52nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, under the 52nd Fighter Wing.Leaphart is survived by his father, Malik Muhammad, and mother, Pamela Leaphart. Whitehurst is survived by his father and mother, Davin and Maria Whitehurst. The Associated Press reports that Leaphart was from Georgia and Whitehurst was from Arizona.In a statement Sunday, base commander Col. David Epperson expressed his condolences to the men’s loved ones.“It is always very difficult to lose valued members of our team,” said Col. Authorities say Maricopa County Assessor Paul D. Petersen has been indicted in an adoption fraud scheme.The Department of Public Safety raided Petersen's home and businesses on Tuesday evening.During that raid, eight pregnant Marshallese women were located.According to the Attorney General's Office, the raids are related to a multi-state investigation, arrest, and criminal indictment involving Petersen and another person -- Lynwood Jennet. Petersen also faces charges for related offenses in Arkansas and Utah.According to the indictment, Petersen and Jennet face 32 counts, including conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and practices, theft, and forgery.Officials say in addition to being County Assessor for Maricopa County, Petersen is also an adoption lawyer.In a press conference held Wednesday, Attorney General Mark Brnovich said none of the women who gave birth did anything illegal, and none of the families that adopted children are accused of any crimes.
