CLARK COUNTY, Wis. -- A Wisconsin sheriff's office is looking for suspects after a dog's front legs were zip-tied together and was found weak and skinny by first responders.The Clark County Sheriff's Office, located in the northwestern part of the state near Eau Claire, says the dog was found next to a bridge in the township of Thorp last Monday. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A Florida family says they were recently targeted by a terrifying kidnapping scam.Katie and Steve Watson live in Coral Springs, Florida and want to warn families about the crime.Katie tells WPTV that she received a call on Monday from a number she didn’t recognize. On the line she heard a whimpering child, then a mysterious man say he had kidnapped Katie’s daughter, Chloe."All of a sudden a man's voice came on the line, and he said, 'Katie I have your daughter. She's in the back of my van,' " Watson told WPTV on Tuesday.Katie said she quickly hung up, feeling in her gut that it was scam. "That's really part of what gave me the chills was somebody calling me by my name," said Watson. "That was unsettling."Katie says she figured it was a scam, but then got a bad feeling when she checked her daughter’s location through her phone's GPS.It initially said her daughter was at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, which Chloe attends. But then the GPS suddenly jumped to another location in Parkland.Upon further investigation, the Watsons found that her daughter was indeed at school, and more importantly, safe."I got chills all over my body and I was like, OK, I know that was a scam but that's like every parent's worst nightmare is to hear your kid has been kidnapped," said Watson.The FBI calls this a virtual kidnapping scam and says it’s evolved over the years and become more sophisticated.In the calls, a crook says he’s kidnapped your loved one and demands money in exchange for their safe return.In the Watsons' case, however, the scam was taken to a frightening new level with the use of a whimpering child on the line.The FBI offers these tips so you don’t become a victim: 1748

County employees in southern California have been arrested for allegedly damaging a Black Lives Matter sign that was displayed on private property in the city of Thousand Oaks.The homeowner installed a surveillance camera and captured several instances of people damaging and trying to remove the sign, which is a tarp along a fence with the letters "BLM" on it. Authorities said they recognized one of the vandals after the homeowner posted surveillance video on social media, according to the LA Times. Three people so far have been arrested, including Darin Stone, a sheriff's office employee in a non-sworn-in position. He was allegedly seen slashing the sign in two separate incidents while off-duty.Stone received a misdemeanor citation and was placed on administrative leave.Craig Anderson, an investigative assistant in the Ventura County DA's office was cited for vandalism. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- One person has been injured after a school bus crash on Coronado Wednesday afternoon, police say. According to police, the crash happened on 9th Street and Orange Avenue just after 1:30 p.m.Police say the person injured was riding on the bus which belongs to Coronado Unified School District. The district later put out a statement saying, "no significant injuries" were reported.  436

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Apple announced Tuesday that it has committed to becoming 100% carbon neutral across its entire business by 2030.The tech company says its corporate operations are already carbon neutral, but now it plans for its supply chain and product life cycle to be too.The new commitment means that by 2030, every Apple device sold will have net zero climate impact, the company said.Apple also released a report Tuesday, detailing its plans to reduce its emissions by 75% by 2030 while developing innovative carbon removal solutions for the remaining 25% of its comprehensive footprint.Apple released a “Climate Roadmap” it will follow as it seeks to lower emissions.Some key points of the plan include increasing the use of low carbon and recycled materials in its products, lowering energy use at its facilities, relying solely on renewable energy, tackling emissions through technological improvements, and investing in forests and other nature-based solutions to remove carbon from the atmosphere.To support its efforts, Apple says it’s establishing an “Impact Accelerator,” which will focus on investing in minority-owned businesses that drive positive outcomes in its supply chain and in communities that are disproportionately affected by environmental hazards.“Businesses have a profound opportunity to help build a more sustainable future, one born of our common concern for the planet we share,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The innovations powering our environmental journey are not only good for the planet — they’ve helped us make our products more energy efficient and bring new sources of clean energy online around the world.
