NASHVILLE, Tenn. - When it comes to time off, managers can ask questions to an extent in order to confirm an employee is following CDC and local health mandates.Businesses are legally allowed to ask employees about potential exposure to COVID-19 if it helps keep the workplace or customers safe. Attorney Rebecca Demaree said if an employer does not treat every employee the same way, they may find themselves in hot water."Should you ask 'well, if you're going to that protest activity, we're going to make your self isolate for 14 days because we know there are going to be a large number of individuals,' and then you take a similarly situated employee who says 'at Christmas I'll be with 20 of my relatives,' and you don't treat them the same way, the question could be are you doing that because you're trying to stifle a protest or a First Amendment activity?" said Rebecca Demaree.Demaree counsels companies on labor and employment law. She said health screenings when employees return to work after time off make sense in most high-contact industries."That's going to be important for the employers to keep customers and fellow employees safe," Demaree said. Demaree advises a good questionnaire doesn't include questions that can make an employee feel singled out."They're not questions about 'who were you with?' 'Where were you?' What were you doing exactly?' But they are more designed to lead to those questions if more information is warranted," she said.Additionally, friends and families should not compare their return to work processes because different industries are doing it differently. New questions are also likely to be asked in 2021 when vaccines are available. Some employers may be able to require workers to get the shots. This story was first reported by Hannah McDonald at WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee. 1841

MILWAUKEE -- Some Milwaukee high schoolers are crushed after the dress they ordered for prom wasn’t done in time for the dance.Indira Ali, Riverside University High School Senior, wanted a custom made prom dress for her dance on April 20.Back in February, she met with Milwaukee designer, Kelvin Hayden and they came up with a design. She said weeks went by and she couldn’t get a hold of him. “I’ve been trying to contact him about it see how my dress is coming along. Every time he would give me an excuse on why I can’t see it, why he’s not returning calls,” Ali said. Ali said her mom put down a 0 deposit for the dress through PayPal.She said she was promised the dress would be done before the dance, but it wasn’t. Hours before prom she was forced to find a different one.“He told me it was going to be done in four weeks and those four weeks came and went by and I still didn’t have a dress,” Ali said. Her mom and others were furious and shared their stories on Facebook, demanding Hayden give these girls their money back. Hayden talked with Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee over the phone. He said he refunded everyone and has apologized to the young girls and their mothers. He said the company he ordered lace from for one of the prom dresses kept sending the wrong kind and weeks went by and he was forced to order a different material. “I ordered some of that fabric and paid for express shipping which was well over 0, it came in and mind you, it came in the day before her prom,” said Hayden. Issues with that one dress, Hayden said, delayed his work on three other prom dresses. With 25 years experience as a designer, Hayden told WTMJ he’s never had anything like this happen before. “There’s nothing I can say that’s going to bring their special day back,” Hayden said. A photographer, Timothy Ricketts, saw the story on social media and decided he would find a way to make it up to the girls. He said he plans to get hair stylists and makeup artists involved and take professional photos of the teens for free. More than 20 fire departments are working to burn down a Beaver Dam, Wisconsin apartment building where a deadly explosion happened last week. City officials said dangerous chemicals inside of the structure made it too dangerous for residents to re-enter, and that burning the building to the ground is the safest way to prevent any injuries."We have carefully reviewed this, and we firmly believe this is the action that needs to be taken, unfortunately," said Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel at a Wednesday evening news conference. The five, neighboring buildings in the apartment complex were evacuated ahead of Thursday's controlled burn. Streets in the area were shut down at 9 a.m.Around 10 o'clock, firefighters lit both ends of the apartment building at 109 Knaup Dr. on fire and allowed it to burn towards the middle. Large shipping containers were placed around building 109 to help contain the heat and flames. Mannel said staffing of the fire trucks surrounding the building is minimal, and that firefighters only plan to step in and control the flames if they threatened any of the nearby structures. Police on Wednesday identified 28-year old Benjamin Morrow as the man killed in last Monday's blast. According to authorities, Morrow lived in one of the units.Beaver Dam Police Chief John Kreuziger said investigators continue to suspect that Morrow was building a bomb inside of the apartment. According to his obituary, Morrow worked in the quality department at Richelieu Foods in Beaver Dam for almost a year. His obituary describes him as "a hard worker" who "had a good rapport with all those around him."Police and the FBI continue to investigate why Morrow was in possession of the volatile chemicals that required them to eventually burn the building down.Kreuziger on Wednesday declined to comment on what the chemicals inside of the apartment were. City officials said the plan is for evacuated residents to be allowed back into their homes this evening. That's also when they plan to re-open nearby streets. The EPA has placed air monitoring devices in the area. Mannel said the EPA can also test the air in individual apartments within the evacuation zone at the request of residents. 2336

Multiple people were injured Thursday when a school bus collided with a dump truck and flipped over in Mount Olive Township in Morris County, New Jersey, officials said. The Associated Press reports that one adult and one student were killed.Mount Olive Mayor Rob Greenbaum, who saw the aftermath of the highway crash from an overpass, described the scene as "horrific." He told HLN Thursday there were possible ejections in the crash. At least three hospitals have received patients from the accident, including two believed to be children, officials said. The bus was transporting students from East Brook Middle School in Paramus, New Jersey, according to a school official."Our hearts are broken by today's tragedy," Gov. Phil Murphy said in a Facebook post after arriving at the school.Jay Faltings, who drove past the scene about five minutes after the crash, told HLN he saw children being rescued from the wreckage.Faltings said the front of the dump truck appeared to have been sheared off and the school bus was "ripped off its frame" after hitting a guard rail and flipping over."It's like nothing you've ever seen before," he said.Faltings said first responders appeared to have removed the children from the scene."They were young kids," he said. "But luckily, first responders, everybody there helped get all the kids out safely from what we could see... The kids were obviously freaked out."The National Transportation Safety Board said via Twitter that it was "gathering information" on the crash. All lanes of Interstate 80 have been shut down.Mount Olive Township is about 50 miles west of New York City.The-CNN-Wire 1638
