SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say they received a call regarding a goat on the loose in the tailgate lot near Petco Park on Sunday.SDPD said a goat was apparently running around the lot sometime before 2 p.m., before the owner of the animal had retrieved the goat and left the area before officers arrived."Officers are responding to reports of a goat running around the area of tailgate lot in downtown. The latest is the owner has the goat and is walking him back to his vehicle saying he was a BAAAAAAAD goat. The owner and his goat left the area prior to police arrival," the department tweeted.The department said a couple of hours later that officers later found the man and his goat elsewhere downtown and learned the goat's name: "Tom Brady." 764

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several asylum seekers had their first immigration hearing before a San Diego judge Tuesday afternoon. Six migrants from Honduras and one from Guatemala were scheduled to appear for their first hearing. The group is among roughly 240 people waiting in shelters in Tijuana under President Trump's new policy. Robyn Barnard is an immigration attorney with the group Human Rights First. She's representing two men from Honduras. She met with her clients Tuesday morning after they crossed into the United States at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. "One of my clients is a leader in his church. I think he relies on his faith. He brought us all together to pray before they presented at the port, which was a very touching moment," said Barnard. The judge granted her motion to allow her clients to be interviewed by the Department of Homeland Security Officials before being returned to the shelter in Mexico. She said they fear for their lives there."That's because one, they are asylum seekers, they're not Mexican nationals, they don't feel like they would be able to go seek protection from authorities because they are seen as migrants and foreigners," said Barnard. Barnard said her clients have family in the United States ready to accept them while their claims are processed. "They've received verbal slurs for being migrants in Mexico. They are staying in a shelter because they can't afford to pay for housing. They don't have any right to work in Mexico, and the shelter has started receiving threats as a result of sheltering these asylum seekers," said Barnard. Barnard said her clients were supposed to meet with DHS at the Port of Entry in San Ysidro sometime Tuesday, but as of five p.m she had not received an update on their status. Their next immigration hearing in San Diego is scheduled for August 6th. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Santas are taking a big hit in 2020 for two big reasons: the pandemic and politics.During a typical December, Santas in San Diego would pop up at events, fundraisers, malls, parties and more. FORBS is the Fraternal Order of Real Bearded Santas, and the group meets and trains year-round to prepare the best Santas for the holiday season. This year, even these pros can’t find work.There are two big reasons for this. The first is one that is impacting most industries right now: the pandemic. Events and parties are canceled, and malls are hurting. At a mall, Santa usually would go through a line of kids, put them on his lap, and ask them what they want for Christmas this year. It just means Santa is an employee instead of an independent contractor. Santas will be getting a paycheck with holdings taken out of it,” said one Santa.This means Santas who train year-round for this month have to adapt. Some are turning to virtual meet and greets to make ends meet.“Virtual is definitely for me the savior of the year,” said a Santa who recently got booked up with back-to-back virtual greetings. He said he usually makes about ,000 per holiday season, but will be lucky to break ,000 this year, even with the uptick in virtual bookings.Another Santa said he usually works at a mall, but that gig was canceled this year so he’s working as much as he can at Seaport Village, which does have in-person Santa photo opportunities. Sharp said Tuesday that it was temporarily closing its La Mesa West and Point Loma locations beginning Thursday, March 26.
