Actress Lori Loughlin turned herself in on Wednesday to authorities, one day after federal officials accused the actress and her husband of being involved in a major bribery scheme involving parents using bribes to help their children gain entry into elite colleges without merit. Loughlin posted a million bail on Wednesday, the LA Times reported. Loughlin, who was on the cast of the hit 90s sitcom "Full House," is accused of spending 0,000 in bribes to help her two daughters gain admission into USC. Loughlin's daughters allegedly gained entrance into USC as crew recruits, despite not having the credentials to participate in the sport. Fellow actress Felicity Huffman was also among those indicted on Tuesday. She was accused of paying ,000 to a fictitious charity, and in return, would allow her daughter to take the SAT with a proctor who would then alter the answers to the SAT. Huffman was released on a 0,000 bail on Wednesday. Neither actress has gone to trial yet. 1004
An 8-year-old boy in Kentucky donated 165 toys to the Ludlow Police Department’s annual holiday toy drive, making sure local children in need wake up Christmas morning to presents under their trees.“I’m happy,” third-grader Braxton Gillespie, who solicited donations by posting copies of a hand-drawn flyer across town, said Friday night. “I just get to help people that don’t have stuff.”The department’s toy drive tends to run down to the wire, Chief Scott Smith said Friday night. Officers spend the early winter reaching out to local schools and identifying around 30 families that need extra help to fill out their Christmas lists, but there are always late entries. “Every year, a couple days before (Christmas), we always get some surprise families added to the list, and we always scramble,” Smith said. “Generally, the officers pay for gifts out of their pockets, so you get one guy going to buy three or four basketballs. We spend our own money to get it done.” Braxton’s donation ensures that won’t happen this year.He said he was inspired by a YouTube video about giving. His method for collecting the toys was simple. He drew a flyer reading I’m helping the Ludlow Police Department. I want to fill my mom’s van with toys to help kids to have a merry Christmas. #BraxtonMission #SpreadingCheer Thanks. He posted it around town, asking friends and family for help in the process. The donations rolled in, and the police department was stunned.“This little boy really kind of brings joy because he’s a sweet kid, and he’s doing it all on his own,” Smith said. “He was raised right.” Braxton hopes to donate twice as many toys in 2020. 1656
An Alaska Airlines flight from San Francisco to Philadelphia was forced to divert, all thanks to a belligerent passenger who tried twice to light up inside the cabin.Passengers boarding Alaska Airlines' red-eye flight 1138 in San Francisco were in for quite a surprise. Over halfway through the flight, they had to divert to Chicago. One of their fellow passengers tried to break one of the cardinal rules of modern air travel: do not smoke on airplanes. Then the passenger refused to comply with flight crew instructions by trying to light up a cigarette -- again.About an hour before they were supposed to land in Philadelphia, pilots were forced to divert to O'Hare International Airport."Due to a disruptive passenger onboard and out of an abundance of caution, the flight was diverted to Chicago and landed at 4:22 a.m. local time," Alaska Airlines told CNN.Chicago Police say they were asked to meet the plane because of the cigarette-lighting passenger, who "was somewhat belligerent."While the individual was escorted off the plane without incident, the diversion added an hour onto the other passengers' red-eye flight, since the plane needed refueling. It's unclear if the passenger will face any punishment for their actions. The FAA, which enforces the regulations the passenger violated, told CNN the incident is under investigation.Chicago Police say they did not make an arrest. The FBI and US Marshals tell CNN they did not make any arrest either.According to the agency's own recommendations, a flight attendant or pilot in charge should be filing a noncompliance report.CNN has asked Alaska Airlines if the crew from the flight has filed a report but has not yet received a response. 1711
