BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Thursday called for more efforts to tap ocean resources and protect the ocean's environment.In the past five years, China has made remarkable progress in oceanic work, especially in developing an ocean economy, protecting seawater environment and safeguarding orders on the seawater, he said while meeting with outstanding organizations and individuals selected from the national ocean systems.However, the public's demand on seawater products and services has been increasing and the tasks are arduous to protect the ocean's ecology and ensure sustainable development, he said.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (R, front) meets with the outstanding units and workers from the national ocean systems, in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 2, 2010.He urged more efforts be made to implement the scientific outlook on development and accelerate the transformation of economic development patterns in planning the development of the oceans, protecting seawater ecology and improving anti-disaster capacities.

BEIJING, Dec.23 (Xinhua) -- China is tightening regulation on foreign investment in the real estate sector to crack down on speculation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce(MOC) on Thursday.The ministry urges local authorities to increase checks and supervision on property investment that involved foreign investors and strengthen risk controls on the sector, said the statement posted on the MOC web site.According to the statement, foreign-funded developers are not allowed to make profits through buying and reselling real estate projects, which will be strictly monitored by the MOC along with the Ministry of Land and Resources and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.The ministry also required local authorities to tighten scrutiny over foreign-funded investment companies and not to allow those companies to enter the real estate businesses, while closely examining the exact amount of foreign funds used in new real estate projects.Foreign direct investment(FDI) into China's property sector jumped 48 percent to 20.1 billion U.S. dollars in the first eleven months of this year, compared to a 17.73 percent growth in the total FDI in the same period, according to earlier MOC data.China introduced a group of measures to crack down on property market speculation and rein in skyrocketing home prices since the beginning of this year, including prohibiting the issuance of mortgage loans for third home purchases and raising down-payments.The government is also guarding against possible "hot money" inflows that might complicate China's policy to fight inflation.Property prices in 70 major Chinese cities rose 0.3 percent in November, month on month, and 7.7 percent year on year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Tuesday urged the nation's railway departments to step up efforts to promote safe railway transport and build quality railway projects to better serve social-economic development.Further, priority should be placed on ensuring the safety of the country's high-speed railway in the next five years, Zhang told a national railway conference.Zhang urged railway departments to accelerate construction of the major projects while strengthening quality management and control.He also ordered authorities to make more efforts to improve technological innovation, while sharpen the international competitiveness of railway technologies and products.Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang (C) speaks at a national railway conference in Beijing, capital of China, Jan. 4, 2011. WUHAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Sunday that Sino-Indian relations have global influence as well as strategic significance.Yang made the remarks while meeting with his Indian counterpart, S.M. Krishna, in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, during the 10th China-Russia-India foreign ministers' meeting.This year marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Indian diplomatic relations, said Yang.Yang also praised the continuing development of bilateral ties over the past 60 years, featuring frequent high-level exchanges and continuously enhanced bilateral cooperation in all areas.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi (R) shakes hands with his Indian counterpart S.M. India attached great importance to the relationship with China, hoping to enhance high-level exchanges and mutual trust between the two countries with the goal of boosting bilateral relations.Krishna noted that India placed special emphasis on trade cooperation with China, welcoming more Chinese enterprises to invest in the future in Indian manufacturing industry and infrastructure construction.The two ministers also exchanged views on international issues of common concern.It was also noted that bilateral trade has increased, with an annual growth rate of more than 30 percent since 2004.Additionally, statistics released by the Chinese General Administration of Customs showed that the trade volume of the two countries had reached around 45.43 billion U.S. dollars from January to September, up 43.7percent compared with the same period last year.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Minister of External Affairs S.M. Krishna arrived in Wuhan Saturday afternoon for trilateral talks slated for Nov. 14 to 15.On the sidelines of the two-day meeting, Yang will also have separate bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart.During the two-day meeting, the three foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss international and regional issues of common interest aimed at promoting practical cooperation among the three countries.The last round of meetings of this kind was held in India in October 2009.
