SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There is a memorial of candles, notes, and flowers along 4th Avenue near Main Street in Chula Vista.They are in memory of 23-year-old Christina Garcia, who was found dead at a nearby field on Aug. 5th. Chula Vista police say they were called out to 3100 block of Main Street after someone found her body. They say she had an apparent gunshot wound and opened a homicide case.“That afternoon, she wanted to see her daughter and pick up the truck, so it was a brief encounter,” her mother, Lisa Garcia, said. “I expected her to come back, and I wish I took advantage of that situation longer.”Lisa says Christina leaves behind a two-year-old daughter.“I think the saddest thing for me is that her daughter is only going to know her through pictures because she’s so young,” She said. “She’s never going to remember her mom’s touch, her kiss, her voice.”Lisa says her daughter was very likable and smart.“She tested out in the 10th grade and started southwestern college and finished her classes there,” Lisa said. She was also a skilled welder and liked working with her hands. Most recently, they bought a home and worked on remodeling it.“She’s very hands-on, like her mom,” Lisa said, “you know, taking the popcorn ceiling down, remodeling the walls.”She says it’s been tough knowing Christina’s killer has not been caught. Lisa says she has many questions and is cannot find any closure without finding answers.“Was she dumped there? Was she shot there? So my brain is at 100 miles per hour trying to come up with all these scenarios,” she said.Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, saying they can even remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers.“There might be information out there that people think is irrelevant,” Lisa said. “But it could be very relevant to law enforcement.” 1845

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Three Scripps Health clinics will be reopening after being closed in March when stay-at-home orders began due to the coronavirus pandemic.Scripps says it has also resumed time-critical surgeries at its five hospital locations and outpatient surgery centers in the county.Scripps Coastal Medical Center Escondido, Scripps Coastal Medical Center Solana Beach, and Scripps Clinic Santee are reopening for the same medical services that were available at the sites prior to closing, expect for radiology.During the closures, patients were referred to other Scripps Health sites that were still open.As the medical centers reopen, Scripps Health says it is taking all necessary precautions, including all staff and patients wearing masks, screening patients before they enter, isolating patients with COVID-19 symptoms, and using strict cleaning protocols."We are very thoughtfully and cautiously phasing in a return of services to make sure that we have what we need to protect our patients and staff – from personal protective equipment to disinfecting supplies – to ensure the safety of everyone in our facilities," said Ghazala Sharieff, Scripps chief medical officer of clinical excellence and experience. 1233

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The public is invited to the inaugural Christmas tree lighting ceremony Saturday at the new Legacy International Center in Mission Valley.Dozens of workers made their last-minute touches Friday ahead of the center's tree lighting, which plans to pull out all the holiday stops."We'll have Christmas caroling out there, and Santa will be out there. Just social fun," Jim Penner, executive director of the center, said. Penner said Saturday's event is the first of a three-phase opening for the nearly 0-million hotel, theater, and attraction center opening next year. The center is the brain-child of San Diego-based televangelist Morris Cerullo, who made his fortune as a popular televangelist in the 1980s and 1990s."He [Cerullo] wanted people around the world to be able to experience the people that he got to know through his 70 years of travel to 95 nations in the world," Penner said. Penner told 10News the center was initially supposed to be a small ministry training center and possibly a dormitory. But with the availability of the 18-acre former Mission Valley Resort, they went big. The hotel will have 126 rooms, including 12 suites. The fine-dining restaurant is a steakhouse, which is next to the pool and spa. The attraction building has a domed, 4D theater designed by former Disney Imagineers. Audiences will get to feel like they're flying over Jerusalem in a ride created by the same designers who made Soarin' Over California at Disney California Adventure Park.Another attraction will be an award-winning, computerized dome, where people can digitally tour the world."As we get to know each other, the world gets smaller," Penner said. Before the council approved the blueprints in 2017, critics of the Legacy International Center feared that traffic would be a nightmare. But Penner said that the improvements they made on the roads turned out to have unexpected benefits. "We widened Hotel Circle the entire length of our property. We have 1000 feet of frontage there. And a nice benefit of that is when we had this last big rain last week, in the past, Hotel Circle would flood like crazy in front of the hook ramps here, and no flooding at all!"The inaugural Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow. According to a new 10News/Union-Tribune scientific poll released Tuesday evening, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has moved into the lead with 25%. In another shakeup, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomerg surged into second place at 21%.Former Vice President had been the leader in each 10News/Union-Tribune poll taken this election cycle until this latest result. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The trolley's Mission Valley stadium site will be closed for two years due to construction on Aztec Stadium.MTS' stadium station will begin the two-year closure on Sunday, Nov. 1, as crews continue to transform the stadium land into a stadium for San Diego State University. The closure will impact the Sycuan Green Line.The station plans to reopen in 2022.The station is a vital connection between SDSU's main campus and the stadium. Once construction is completed, the stop will continue to serve SDSU students, faculty, and staff traveling between the school's main campus and the new SDSU West site.The station has operated adjacent to the stadium since 1997, greeting visitors for Super Bowl XXXII, the World Series, numerous sporting events for the Aztecs, Padres, and Chargers, and concerts for bands like The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Elton John, Beyonce, and more. 901
