He shows us how to make our own businesses and how to progress more.”His brother Amir Bailey will be working with him.“I’m learning how to keep myself in check, how to interact with others, and how to keep my areas clean,” Amir said.The head that bears the crown didn’t come this way.Before starting his first snowball stand outside of the Terra Cafe Benbow Jr. was in prison for 7 years.Taking that time to grow.“I want to barber school, computer repair, fiber optics,” Benbow Jr. said. “Got half of my degree in sociology so that means I know how to speak to individuals.”Jordan Matthews was the first Knight to join the court.“He’s a black-owned business and he’s helping people by taking them off the streets and helping them work and get that money for the summer and stuff,” Matthews said.Benbow Jr. said he kept coming around so he offered him a job.“Now Jordan is able to run all run operations by himself,” said Benbow Jr. “He doesn’t need no adult no supervision or anything out here.”Every Knight gets a binder with a schedule and the 3 simple principals they have to abide by.Check your hygiene and appearance always.Make eye contact with customers and number one- no belt no work.“We can’t get upset at nobody else if we’re not physically doing it,” said Benbow Jr. “If we’re not physically grabbing them and putting the belts on them. HOUSTON (AP) — A federal judge has ordered the release of children held with their parents in U.S. immigration jails and denounced the Trump administration’s prolonged detention of families during the coronavirus pandemic. U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee’s order Friday applies to children at three family detention centers in Texas and Pennsylvania operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Some have been detained since last year. Citing the recent spread of the virus in two of the three facilities, Gee set a deadline of July 17 for children to either be released with their parents or sent to family sponsors. 632

In advance of hurricane season, Florida Power and Light is reviewing plans to make sure power is restored quickly after a storm. This week the company is holding its annual storm drill, simulating a Category 3 hurricane. During the drill, the company says it is incorporating lessons learned from Hurricane Irma, which knocked out power to 6.7 million electrical customers, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).EIA reports the rate of electric service restoration following Hurricane Irma was faster than Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Five days after Irma’s landfall, the share of customers without power had fallen from a peak of 64 percent down to 18 percent -- a recovery rate of about 9 percent of customers per day.Power outages during Wilma declined from 36 percent of customers to 16 percent by the fifth day after landfall. This is an average recovery rate of about 4 percent of customers per day. FPL credits the improvement to money spent on infrastructure improvements. Since 2006, more than 860 main power lines were hardened; within the next five to seven years FPL wants to harden all of them.Strengthened power lines perform approximately 40 percent better than non-strengthened lines, FPL said.This year, FPL plans to undertake the following additional initiatives to improve the reliabilityof service: 1416

Paul Strauss, the shadow-senator for the District of Columbia, thinks it's time to change that. "This is the first century where we haven’t admitted a new state yet," Strauss told Scripps National Political Editor Joe St. George."That flag used to always change and get more and more stars on it," Strauss added.As shadow-senator, Strauss has no vote in committee or on the floor of the United States Senate. The possibility of another state joining the Union is intensifying as the prospect for a Democratic sweep on Election night increases. WHY ODDS ARE INCREASINGDemocrats are expected to maintain control of the House of Representatives and the chamber has already passed a bill admitting D.C. into the union.Democratic Nominee Joe Biden has also backed the idea. Meanwhile, if Democrats take back the Senate and change the filibuster rule, the possibility of D.C. becoming a state is even more likely. That's because Democrats would only need 51 votes in favor of statehood. Currently 60 votes are needed and unlikely even if Democrats win big on election night. DEMOCRATS' POLITICAL MOTIVE Of course Democrats have a political motive in making the District of Columbia a state beyond the belief that "no taxation without representation" is unjust. D.C. is an overwhelmingly Democratic city with only 4% voting for President Trump in 2016. In all likelihood, two Democratic Senators would be elected, giving Democrats a major political advantage for decades to come. "This is not about the voice of the people of the District of Columbia, this is a raw powerplay," Senator Steve Daines, R-Montana, said in a recent interview with Scripps. Daines says if D.C. truly wants representation, Virginia or Maryland could annex parts of the city where people live. Strauss couldn't disagree more. "We want to join the union. What could be more patriotic than that?" Strauss said. For those who say the Constitution calls for the seat of government to not be in a state, Strauss says a new special district would be created outside of D.C.'s jurisdiction and stretch from the Supreme Court to the Capitol, through the National Mall and to the White House. 2278
