CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Sweetwater Unified School District officials said Thursday they are investigating an incident in which someone disrupted an online classroom by playing inappropriate audio.According to a district spokesperson, the incident happened Wednesday during a session taught by an Olympian High School teacher. The incident was reported by both a student and the teacher.Audio described as "sexual" in nature was played in the virtual classroom.District spokesperson Manny Rubio told 10News that the source of the audio is unlikely to be a hacker, and that a student or students cooperated in the disruption."Each course has an access code and we believe there are other students using those codes to enter and create disruptions," said Rubio. "Our IT staff is looking to identify the specific sources."It's unknown if the school or district requires students to use cameras to attend the online classroom.The district's 25 campuses matriculated over 40,000 students for online classes this school year, which started Monday. Students have been assigned equipment and software to access their virtual classes, including Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. Rubio said that since Monday, there have a few similar incidences of disruption but that a great majority of students are having positive experiences. (KGTV) — Police are searching for the person responsible for stabbing a man during a reported fight in Chula Vista.Police said they were called Wednesday just after 1:30 a.m. over a reported fight in the 500 block of Flower Street and that someone had been injured.Chula Vista Police arrived to find a Hispanic man in his 20s unresponsive with a stab wound on his upper body.The man was treated at the scene, but died of his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.No suspect was in custody Wednesday and police could not offer a possible description.Chula Vista Police Homicide Detectives were investigation the stabbing and ask anyone with information to call 619-691-5074. 732

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Two San Diego County congressmen called on United Technologies Corp. Monday to reconsider plans to lay off roughly 300 employees at the company's Chula Vista manufacturing plant as it looks toward shuttering the facility entirely.Reps. Juan Vargas, D-Chula Vista, and Scott Peters, D-San Diego, joined California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to push back against the layoffs. Vargas and Peters also requested that the company answer a list of questions about how UTC decided to shutter the plant and how involved the machinists union was in the discussion.UTC notified workers in July of the company's plan to close the factory by 2020."We understand that complex domestic and international markets factor into these difficult decisions; however, we note that UTC's company website says it creates products for one of the ‘fastest growing industries on the planet,"' Vargas and Peters said in a letter to UTC Aerospace Systems President David Gitlin. "This robust characterization of the industry seems to conflict with the decision to eliminate hundreds of production jobs."UTC's plant in Chula Vista has operated since 1940 and produces engine pods and mounts for aerospace companies like Boeing and Airbus. The union representing the workers charges UTC with moving its manufacturing plants to Mexico to take advantage of cheaper wages."We hope UTC reconsiders its decision to shut down its manufacturing facility in Chula Vista," said Robert Martinez Jr., president of the International Association of Machinists. (KGTV) -- Ozzy Osbourne has delayed his Chula Vista concert originally slated to take place Tuesday night.The concert, set to take place at the Mattress Firm Amphitheatre, will now take place on October 18.According to People Magazine, several shows have been delayed after Osbourne underwent hand surgery due to a bacterial infection.Ticket holders for the show are advised to hold on to their tickets, which will be honored for the new date.Refunds are also available at the point of purchase. (KGTV) - Sweetwater Union High School District is trying to be proactive in the way it approaches teenage suicide.They'll hold an Open Forum to discuss the issue Thursday night, March 7, at Otay Ranch High School (1250 Olympic Parkway). The meeting starts at 6 pm."One life lost is one too many," says District Spokesperson Manny Rubio.According to the latest numbers from the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council, suicides rose in 2017 after three years of holding steady. There were 458 deaths by suicide in 2017.The report also found that 14.5 percent of students had seriously considered suicide.Rubio says any time there is an incident with a Sweetwater student, they have crisis counselors and psychologists who go to campus. They also follow up with students in the ensuing months. But those are all reactive measures.To be more proactive, SUHSD officials asked students what issues they want to address concerning suicide. Among the responses were depression, social media pressure and bullying.The topics will be front and center of the public forum Thursday night."We want to make sure as we're going forward, that we're looking at what we can to better support our students," says Rubio. "This was one of the ideas. So let's talk about this in the open and let's talk about this publicly so that we can make sure that our students are feeling supported and feeling recognized."The event is open to the public. The district says students, parents, community members and anyone else from anywhere in San Diego County is welcome to attend and participate.San Diego County also offers a website, up2sd.org, to address the suicide crisis.
