DETROIT — A 20-year-old woman believed to have died was found breathing at a Detroit funeral home.According to an attorney hired by her family, workers at the funeral home were close to embalming Timesha Beauchamp before realizing that she was still breathing."They were about to embalm her which is most frightening had she not had her eyes open. They would have begun draining her blood to be very, very frank about it," said Geoffrey Fieger, an attorney who has been hired by Beauchamp's family.On Sunday morning, paramedics with the Southfield Fire Department in Michigan responded after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman. The department's fire chief said Beauchamp was not breathing when the paramedics arrived.First responders determined after 30 minutes of revival efforts that she was deceased."Because there was no indication of foul play, as per standard operating procedure, the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office was contacted and given the medical data. The patient was again determined to have expired and the body was released directly to the family to make arrangements with a funeral home of their choosing," the chief said in a statement.Fieger says that Beauchamp's godmother — a registered nurse — tried to tell EMS workers that she felt a pulse.Hours later, the staff at the James H. Cole funeral home realized she was still breathing. "It’s one of people's worst nightmares to imagine having an ambulance called and instead, sending you off to a funeral home in a body bag. The funeral home unzipping the body bag, literally, that’s what happened to Timesha, and seeing her alive with her eyes open," Fieger said.Beauchamp is in critical condition at Sinai Grace Hospital and is on a ventilator. Fieger said that the 90-minute delay Beauchamp encountered by going to the funeral home instead of going to the hospital may be critical to her recovery.It is still unclear what led up to the call for the unresponsive woman.“A local emergency department physician pronounced the patient deceased based upon medical information provided by the Southfield Fire Department at the scene. After which, the Southfield Police Department contacted the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office to notify them of the findings and the on-duty forensic pathologist released the body to the family," the Southfield Fire Department said in a statement. "The Southfield Fire and Police Departments followed all appropriate city, county and state protocols and procedures in this case. The City of Southfield is currently conducting a thorough internal investigation in addition to the Oakland County Medical Control Authority (OCMCA) which will be reporting their findings to the State of Michigan Bureau of EMS, Trauma and Preparedness (BETP). "We should know more about her condition tomorrow."Magnolia's Hope was fourth at the start of the race, took the lead a quarter-mile into the race and dropped to fourth in the field of seven through a half-mile.Magnolia's Hope has one victory in nine career starts, along with two second-place finishes and one third-place finish. She has earned ,260 in her career.The 4-year-old filly Velvet Queen also was vanned off after finishing third in the eighth race, a mile race on the dirt track for fillies and mares 3 years old and up which have never won ,000 once other than maiden. This home not only represents a wonderful building achievement, but it’s a place where laughter and memories have been shared every single day. As their family grew, the home expanded. “I built this, I built that,” said Gerald pointing around the property. “With help, you know, you cannot do anything without help.” This year, Linda and her dad found their family needing a little help with their home once again. “There were a lot of things that needed work and especially, the safety,” said Linda. The outside doors didn’t close or lock, and the kitchen didn’t have working appliances. But COVID-19 made those repairs impossible to pay for after Linda lost her job. “Can't do anything anymore hardly,” said Gerald. “I want to go to bingo. No, I ain't got no money. That's what gets hard.” “You're not able to do the things you used to be able to do afford, because being on a fixed income and no income is detrimental,” said Linda. DETROIT — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is activating an emergency plan in response an outbreak of hepatitis A.The number of cases continues to rise in Michigan. The department is activating what is called the Community Health Emergency Coordination Center."To help coordinate Michigan’s response to the hepatitis A outbreak, we are opening the Community Health Emergency Coordination Center to assist the multiple local public health jurisdictions involved in the response and prevention of further cases," said MDHHS Director Nick Lyon.The emergency coordination center will provide support to health departments, hospitals, EMS and other health care providers.Health care providers are asked to encourage hepatitis A vaccination."We know that the hepatitis A vaccine is more than 90 percent effective in protecting someone who may be exposed to hepatitis A," said Dr. Eden Wells, Chief Medical Executive with the MDHHS. "Without a single source associated with these cases, the importance of vaccination and proper hygiene is vital to ensuring we stop the person-to-person spread of hepatitis A." There have been 457 confirmed cases of hepatitis A since August 1, 2016. This number includes 18 fatalities associated with the outbreak and affected a number of cities; City of Detroit, Huron, Ingham, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties reported to MDHHS.Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver caused by a virus and is a vaccine-preventable disease.Symptoms may appear from two to six weeks after exposure, with the average time being about one month. They include sudden abdominal pain, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dark urine, and vomiting followed by yellowing of the skin and eyes.To reduce the risk of contracting Hepatitis A, health officials recommend the following points of emphasis:*Wash hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom, changing diapers, and before preparing and eating food.*Clean and disinfect all surface areas if someone in the household or workplace has symptoms., especially areas such as toilets. sinks, trashcans, doorknobs and faucet handles.*Do not prepare food if you have symptoms and refrain from food preparation for at least three days after symptoms have ended, or two weeks after onset of clinical symptoms, whichever is longer.*Get the Hepatitis A vaccine. 2428
