Bob Woodward had my quotes for many months. If he thought they were so bad or dangerous, why didn’t he immediately report them in an effort to save lives? Didn’t he have an obligation to do so? No, because he knew they were good and proper answers. Calm, no panic!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 10, 2020 327

BALTIMORE, Md. - A picture is worth a thousand words. It's a cliche saying but it's true. Many times when you look at a picture, it takes you back to that exact moment in time. That's what a local artist focuses on doing for people to capture their memories.Shawn Parsons has been painting his entire life and sells his work but sometimes he gives away a piece of his artwork.Over the winter, he painted a picture of a pet after his coworker's dog died."The overwhelming joy was so huge for me when I left there I thought maybe there’s something about painting someone else’s memories," said Parsons. "It was such a cool feeling for me to give something to someone where the emotion was so high I continued to do it."So he painted a few more and gave them away. This pandemic put a different twist on things for Parsons. His friend, Erin Millon, asked if he would paint a picture for her son's birthday. It was just another project that turned into a movement.Parsons painted a picture for her son, McCabe, of him playing lacrosse. McCabe made the varsity lacrosse team at McDonogh High School as a freshman but his season was canceled."We were able to play two games and then everything shut down," said McCabe. "It hurt a lot, still does. One of the worst parts about it was seeing how much the seniors lost and knowing how much they care and how much they’ve been working all fall, all winter."McCabe was blown away by Parsons' painting, he wanted others to feel what he did. So Parsons painted a picture for Scott Cole, a senior who helped McCabe even before high school. Now, 25 student-athletes have been part of this pay it forward movement."It’s special for me to know other seniors who lost their seasons are now getting that same moment I got to see Scott have in their own way," said McCabe. If you're interested in being part of the movement go to honoryourstudentathlete.com or majorleaguecreative.com."If they can’t play can you just give me a memory of a time when I did play," said Parsons. "I paint a picture for you and for no additional cost I paint one for someone else."This story was first reported by Erin MacPherson at WMAR in Baltimore, Maryland. 2175

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (CNS) - The Beverly Hills City Council Tuesday evening approved an emergency ordinance banning house-to-house trick or treating on Halloween due to the coronavirus pandemic. The ordinance also prohibits providing candy or other Halloween treats or toys to any person outside their household on Oct. 31, car-to-car trick or treating and spraying shaving cream on others, except within their home or residence or licensed barbers on their customers."While I know this is disappointing news, especially to our children, we believe this is the responsible approach to protect the health of the community," said Mayor Lester Friedman.Violators of the restrictions will be subject to citation.City staff is working to develop virtual Halloween events that follow social distancing protocols, according to Keith Sterling, the city's public information manager. The city also announced the following streets will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic, other than to residents who live on them, between 6-10 p.m. Halloween night:-- Carmelita Avenue at Wilshire Boulevard-- Walden Drive southbound at Elevado Avenue-- Walden Drive at Santa Monica Boulevard-- Carmelita Avenue westbound at North Linden Drive-- The alley between North Linden Drive and Walden Drive from Santa Monica Boulevard to Elevado AvenueThe "Witch's House," long Beverly Hills' top Halloween attraction, is located at the southeast corner of Walden Drive and Carmelita Avenue, one block north of Santa Monica Boulevard and one block west of Linden Drive. As is customary on Halloween, parking restrictions will be in effect in the northeast portion of the city at the border with West Hollywood. 1690

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanese officials targeted in the investigation of the massive blast that tore through Beirut sought to shift blame for the presence of explosives at the city’s port, and the visiting French president warned that without serious reforms the country would “continue to sink.” The blast, which appeared to have been caused by an accidental fire that ignited a warehouse full of ammonium nitrate at the city’s port, rippled across the Lebanese capital, killing at least 135 people, injuring more than 5,000 and causing widespread destruction. It also may have accelerated the country’s coronavirus outbreak, as thousands flooded into hospitals in the wake of the blast.French President Emmanuel Macron visited Thursday amid widespread pledges of international aid.Macron, who viewed the devastated port and was to meet with senior Lebanese officials, said the visit is “an opportunity to have a frank and challenging dialogue with the Lebanese political powers and institutions.”He said France will work to coordinate aid but warned that “if reforms are not made, Lebanon will continue to sink.”The head of Lebanon’s customs department meanwhile confirmed in an interview with LBC TV late Wednesday that officials had sent five or six letters over the years to the judiciary asking that the ammonium nitrate be removed because of the dangers it posed. But Badri Daher said all he could do was alert authorities to the presence of dangerous materials, saying even that was “extra work” for him and his predecessor. He said the port authority was responsible for the material, while his job was to prevent smuggling and collect duties. 1652

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Social workers could soon work alongside police officers in the Buffalo Police Department. Captain Jeff Rinaldo with the Buffalo Police Department said Monday that officers in Buffalo have been undergoing crisis intervention training for several years. He said officers are learning techniques to help handle situations with people in crisis, including mental health, substance abuse and homelessness. Buffalo police are working on an "initiative to embed licensed clinical social workers" who would work alongside police and help respond to crisis calls, according to paperwork submitted to the Buffalo Common Council. "The goal now is to create a specialized unit called the Behavioral Health Team within the police department," Rinaldo said. Endeavor Health Services is the company named in the proposed contract. A recently-awarded grant allowed the company to hire three trained clinicians to work with Buffalo police and handle crisis calls, Rinaldo said. The contract requires approval by the Common Council and is expected to be discussed at a meeting on Tuesday. The department's new plan was released as protesters across the country call for significant changes in policing. Some proposed plans involve defunding local police departments and, instead, sending social workers to deal with certain crisis calls. Albuquerque, New Mexico, announced earlier this year that they plan to install a similar program in the coming months. This story was originally published by WKBW in Buffalo, New York. 1530
