Journalists are boycotting coverage of films from Walt Disney Studios in order to show solidarity with the L.A. Times, which is being blocked by the company.Entertainment sites like The A.V. Club and Flavorwire, as well as a pop culture writer for the Washington Post, said they would curb their Disney coverage until the ban of the Times was lifted."It's a dangerous precedent that Disney is setting: Write an unfavorable story—one that Disney hasn't disputed factually, even—and it will blacklist your publication, punishing independent journalism by using its massive corporate influence," wrote A.A. Dowd, the A.V. Club's film editor.Last week, the Times explained in an editor's note that Disney's films were not included in its annual Holiday movie preview because of a story the Times published in September that examined the business relationship between the company's Californian theme park -- Disneyland -- and the city of Anaheim.Disney put out a statement Friday saying that while they work with news organizations they "don't always agree with," the Times "showed a complete disregard for basic journalistic standards" in relation to the Disneyland story and that's what led to the ban.The A.V. Club said it was following in the footsteps of the Post's Alyssa Rosenberg, who explained on Monday that even though she's excited to see Disney films like next month's "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," she can't "in good conscience attend similar showings or write reviews in advance" as long as Disney is blocking the Times from press screenings. She added that she doesn't speak for the Post, and that until the Times' critics are "treated like everyone else and welcomed back to press screenings," that she'll write about the films after they are released."I like a lot of movies that come out of the Disney corporate behemoth," she wrote. "But I like journalistic independence from corporate influence more. This is a fine price for me to pay for it."On Monday, Flavorwire also joined the boycott saying that they will "withhold the only thing we have of value to that studio: the free advertising provided by not only reviewing their films, but write-ups of their trailers, production announcements, casting rumors, and so on."They added that while they are a tiny platform they hope that if larger outlets are willing to join that "maybe that will move the needle a little."Disney did not immediately respond to request for comment regarding this story. 2509

JULIAN, Calif. (KGTV) — Visitors flocked to Julian ahead of an impending storm that could bring snow to the scenic mountain town for Thanksgiving.Wednesday, temperatures remained low but dipped as the sun went down. Rain and mist made it difficult for shoppers — clutching their coats and umbrellas — who were still making their way around Julian's main strip. Many are waiting for the snow that's expected to hit the area Thursday and Friday. Some even unprepared for the week's cold weather.RELATED:Thanksgiving storm to hit San Diego: What you need to knowSan Diego to see Thanksgiving storm with holiday travel near record highSheriff's Department offering free home checks over ThanksgivingWhere to go for the snow in San Diego"He forgot his jacket. I told him, 'where's your jacket at?'" laughed Traci Ramirez, pointing at her husband. He was able to purchase a jacket at a local shop.As more guests are sure to arrive for the snow, locals advised visitors to prepare for the powder even if it doesn't materialize."I always say bring them and not need them. They're pretty good about plowing the main roads but not the private roads. Last 'snowmaggeddon' all the staff was stuck here for a week," Kat Bowles, assistant manager at Julian Lodge, said.Gloves, jackets, long pants, and boots will make a trip to the snow much more comfortable. Also, chains will likely be required on many roads leading to the mountains. Anyone planning to head up to the mountains should pack chains for their vehicle.Sledding and fun in the snow should only be done on public lands, not on private land or on the side of roadways where traffic is a hazard. And before leaving, locals ask visitors follow the adage "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints" and clean up after themselves. 1796

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A group of 16 friends have all tested positive for the novel coronavirus after visiting a Jacksonville Beach bar together earlier this month, CNN and WJXT report.Three women from the group spoke to Chris Cuomo about their experience Tuesday and urged others not to go out yet, saying it’s too early.“Of course, we feel regretful. We do feel foolish standing there in front of those people, we knew we were pushing it and it’s a little overwhelming to be ahead of this, but we just want to raise awareness,” Kat Layton told Cuomo. “We want to get ahead of this, tell people that it’s really not ready for what we thought it was ready for, it’s too soon.” 682

Judge Amy Coney Barrett described during her confirmation hearing Tuesday the "personal" and "difficult" conversations her family was forced to have following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis earlier this year.Barrett is the mother of nine children. Two of those children are adopted and are Black."As you can imagine, given that I have two Black children, that was very, very, personal to me and my family," Barrett said.Barrett said her husband and her sons were on a camping trip when a video went viral that showed Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes prior to Floyd's death. Barrett described watching the video with her adoptive daughter, Vivian."For her to understand that there might be a risk to her brother — or a son she might have one day — of that kind of brutality has been an ongoing conversation," Barrett said. "And a difficult one like it has been happening for Americans all over the country."Barrett added that it was especially difficult for some of her younger children to grasp."My children, to this point in their lives, have had the benefit of growing up in a cocoon where they have not yet experienced hatred or violence," she said.Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, then asked if she felt that if she believes overt or systemic racism existed in America."I think it is an entirely uncontroversial and obvious statement given, as we just talked about, the George Floyd video, that racism exists in our country," Barrett said. However, she stopped short of calling racism in America "systemic," saying that in her role as a judge that she was unable to do so."As to the nature of putting my finger on the problem...or how to tackle the issue of making it better, those things are policy questions," Barrett said. "They're hotly contested policy questions that have been in the news and discussed all summer. As I did share my personal experience — and I'm happy to discuss the reaction our family had to the George Floyd video — giving broader statements or making broader diagnoses is beyond what I'm capable of doing as a judge." 2123

Kimberly-Clark has recalled some Cottonelle flushable wipes due to potential bacteria contamination that could lead to an infection.According to the recall notice, Kimberly-Clark voluntarily recalled select packages of Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes that were manufactured between Feb. 7 and Sept. 14 and sold in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. To see if your wipes have been affected, the company provided a lot number checker on its website."Some of the affected products could contain the bacterium, Pluralibacter gergoviae, which is a cause of infection in humans, can be an opportunistic pathogen, and is part of the normal intestinal flora," Kimberly-Clark stated in the notice. "At this time, there is a low rate of non-serious complaints, such as irritation and minor infection, reported for the affected wipes."The company said they had had a low rate of non-serious complaints, such as irritation and minor infection. 986
