SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In light of the governor's directive on limiting large gatherings out of coronavirus concerns, the San Diego Half Marathon announced on Thursday that this Sunday's event will be "virtual" only. While many runners support the decision to cancel the San Diego Half Marathon, they're upset that it doesn't appear there will be any refunds.Organizers sent 10News a statement that reads in part, "By their very nature, the cost of events like ours are front loaded and [non-recoupable], which is why we do not have a refund or deferral policy. This weekend’s 5K Leprechaun run in Pacific Beach is canceled. The upcoming Pearl Jam concert at Viejas Arena is now postponed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jurors have reached their verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing a Navy sailor on a Logan Heights freeway ramp in 2018.Edson Acuna, 26, was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, and several other charges in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Curtis Adams on Oct. 27, 2018. Adams was driving on I-15 at about 2 a.m., when he came upon what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. As Adams got out of his vehicle to check on the car's occupants when he was shot.Prosecutors say Acuna and three others had burglarized a Mt. Hope home that night, before getting into a shootout with the home's residents. As they fled, one of their vehicle's tires were shot out. At the time of his death, he worked as a steelworker with Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.Acuna was also found guilty of burglary, possession of firearm by a felon, transporting assault weapon, possession of assault weapon, prohibited person holding or possessing ammunition, and carrying loaded firearm in a vehicle. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In a move to help shed the mounting costs of a real estate deal gone wrong, the City of San Diego says it is stopping lease payments on the sharply criticized 101 Ash Street building.The city sent a letter to Cisterra Development, which brokered the real estate deal, that it will be "suspending further lease payments for the 1010 Ash Street building," starting with the Sept. 1 payment. The letter adds that the city will not be making any lease payments "until these issues are fairly resolved.""The City has lost use of the building due, in part, to direct physical loss and damage to the premises, including widespread and negligent disturbance of asbestos," the city's letter reads.RELATED: Options and possible consultation costs for vacant buildingThe property at 101 Ash St. has sat vacant in downtown San Diego for most of the last four years. As it remains empty and unused, taxpayers are paying a daily bill to the tune of ,000.The city intended to move 1,100 city employees into the building, but officials soon discovered problem after problem to the site's 19 floors.
