CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A heartbroken South Bay woman is making a desperate plea after three of her Maltese dogs disappeared in the past three weeks, and the clues point to a thief. These days, Yolanda Brown doesn't let Zubian, a year-and-a-half old Maltese, stray too far. Just three weeks ago, he was the youngest in a happy Maltese family of four. Now he's the only one left."Cried for days. It hurts. It hurts a lot," said Brown.The first tears came early this month. Brown rents a home on Del Mar Avenue and her four dogs were required to stay in her fenced backyard. One morning, 2-year-old Zoey vanished. "Checked all the gates and they were shut. Thought it may have been a predator," said Brown. A week later, Zoey's mom, 5-year-old Zivah, disappeared from the same yard."Just distraught, wondering what could have happened to them," said Brown.About 10 days later, Brown decided to keep Zubian and his 5-year-old dad Zeus tied up as a precaution. "One morning, as I came out, Zeus was gone and so was the leash. Zubian standing there by himself," said Brown.For Brown, it was too much to bear. Nearby, she found her fence damaged. A chair - moved from the pool area - was now propped up against the fence. She realized a thief had grabbed all of her dogs."Very cold-hearted people that would so something like that," said Brown.If sold, the stolen dogs could fetch several thousand dollars each. "They are priceless to me. They are members of my family," said Brown.Brown fixed up the fence and moved the chair back. When she walked us to that fence to show 10news cameras, she discovered the fence once again damaged. The chair had been moved back to the fence. "Someone was trying to come back and take my last dog. I'm scared," said Brown.Brown says Zubian has been moved to a safe place. (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District Monday handed out dozens of pink slips to administrators as the district deals with a million budget shortfall for the next school year. The board agreed during a meeting in Chula Vista Saturday to release up to 87 employees. Not every employee who receives a pink slip will lose their job. In a written statement, the district said the employees “may be released or reassigned from their position.” Community forums on the matter will be held at the end of the month. In September 2018, the district noticed a million dollar budget shortfall. An independent audit revealed the district was borrowing money faster than it could pay back. In December, the San Diego County Office of Education appointed a fiscal advisor with power to stay and rescind any financial decision made by the troubled district. Michael Fine of FCMAT said Tuesday his team is investigating the district’s spending. The team is currently reviewing documents and will be in the county later this month to interview personnel within the district, Fine said.The Sweetwater Union High School District is about million in debt for the 2018-2019 school year due to fiscal mismanagement. District officials previously said the shortage was due to expenses from staff raises, including costs of substitute teachers and an unexpected million expense for utilities. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A transient pleaded guilty to an arson count Monday for setting a fire in Chula Vista, one of several blazes he was arrested on suspicion of sparking.Alejandro Gonzalez, 33, is slated to be sentenced Jan. 13 to a 32-month prison term.He was initially charged with four felony counts of arson of a structure or forest involving blazes on May 24, June 14, Sept. 17 and Sept. 20, but those counts were dismissed Monday morning as part of his plea to a newly filed arson of property count.The new count is not connected with a specific fire, but Deputy District Attorney Roza Egiazarian said all the blazes he was charged with setting will be considered at his sentencing hearing.RELATED: Man tied to series of fires in Chula Vista river bottom arrestedAccording to Chula Vista police, who said about a dozen blazes were sparked at various locations throughout the city since late April, Gonzalez was arrested near the scene of a Sept. 20 brush fire.Officers spotted him "walking quickly away" from the blaze in the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue, according to police, who said he had several lighters in his possession and during questioning, "admitted to intentionally setting several brush fires in the river-bottom area over the past five months. (KGTV) - Two girls were hit and injured by a pickup truck in Chula Vista Monday afternoon, officers said.The crash happened about 3:45 p.m. on East H Street at Terra Nova Drive, just east of Interstate 805. The location is near a shopping center with a Taco Bell and Jack in the Box, and Clear View Elementary School. Ambulances rushed the girls, who appeared to be teenagers, to Rady Children’s Hospital. They were both conscious, according to Chula Vista Police.The driver of the silver Toyota Tacoma who hit the girls stopped, police said. There was no immediate report that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.A witness told police the driver had the green light at the time of the crash.10News is monitoring breaking developments. 771
