Miss Nebraska has been named Miss USA. Sarah Rose Summers beat out 50 other women from all the states and the District of Columbia to take the title in Shreveport, La. At the start of the two-hour broadcast on Fox, the competition was immediately narrowed down to 15 contestants according to how they performed during preliminary rounds held in the days before Monday's broadcast.Then the field was narrowed down during the evening gown, swimsuit and interview portions of the competition.Summers, Sarah Summers is 2013 graduate of Papillion-La Vista South High School, takes over from Kara McCullough, who won the competition last year when it was held in Las Vegas.Summers now goes on to represent the U.S. in the Miss Universe competition.Summers attended Texas Christian University and graduated cum laude in four years, completing two separate degrees, a Bachelor of Science in child development and a Bachelor of Science in strategic communication with a business minor. 1004

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says he’s concerned after seeing video of police using a stunning and arresting?a Milwaukee Bucks player Sterling Brown.The video is expected to be released soon, possible later this week. Police are reportedly bracing for backlash from the release of that video. This incident took place on the south side of Milwaukee in January. Police were called to a Walgreens because Brown was illegally parked across two handicap spaces. The officers say they tried to talk to Brown but had to deploy their stun guns to arrest him. Since that time, the arrest has been the subject of a police internal investigation."I have some of the same concerns that the chief has expressed over the video. I'm going to let the release of that speak for itself, but yes, I definitely have concerns after watching that video,” Barrett said. The mayor indicated that Police Chief Alfonso Morales had a similar reaction after seeing the video. Brown was not charged in the incident. MOSCOW — Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny is in a coma in a hospital in Siberia after falling ill from a suspected poisoning.His spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, said Navalny felt unwell on a flight to Moscow and the plane made an emergency landing.Yarmysh said Navalny lost consciousness and must have consumed poison in tea he drank before boarding his flight.Russia’s state news agency Tass reported the politician is in grave condition.He is the most prominent member of Russia’s opposition and has set up a network of campaign offices across Russia to put forward opposition candidates in regional elections, challenging members of Russia’s ruling party.Several politicians and other prominent critics of President Vladimir Putin have been poisoned in recent years.In 2018, former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were found to have been poisoned in Salisbury, England.In 2012, Alexander Perepilichny — a prominent Russian businessman and whistleblower, died while jogging of suspected poisoning, and in 2004, journalist and Putin critic Anna Politkovskaya survived a poisoning on an airplane, only to be shot to death two years later. 1173

Millions of small, black cerith snails cover one area of Fort De Soto Beach, Florida, stunning wildlife lovers. The shellfish, known as cerith snails, cover nearly the entire length of the beach. Robert Neff snapped several pictures of the bizarre event. “I grew up in Florida and I’ve never seen anything like this. It was amazing to see,” he said.What makes this so odd is Cerith snails don’t typically wash up onto land. They’re usually along the bottom of the ocean in flat reefs or hiding in coral reefs where the temperature is warm. The snails are in an area off the south end of the parking lot at Fort DeSoto’s North beach, which borders the bird sanctuary. Neff said the low tide exposed the snails over the weekend, and many are still at the beach. His photographs, along with video taken by Mark Freels of See Through Adventures, have been widely shared across social media. One former research assistant from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center said it's possible the snails came to the shallow waters because they found food, which was washed up by recent hurricanes, on the beach. Freels said it was a very strange and magnificent sight.“My job is to take people on kayak adventures and you never know what you’ll find. This was very interesting to see,” he said. 1330

MURRIETA, Calif. (KGTV) - The father of a solar power worker injured in a Murrieta explosion wants answers about the disaster. Clay Borel’s 24-year-old son Anthony was working for Horizon Solar Panel the day the home blew up, KABC reported. "He was in pretty bad shape. I could see the cuts, and his head, and his face, legs, burned real bad on his arms, legs and face,” the father said. Anthony Borel was one of 14 people injured in the blast and can’t remember what happened that day. A man who worked for SoCal Gas died. Borel's father wants to know why the area was not evacuated between the time the gas started leaking and the explosion, KABC reports."That's enough time to say hey, move to the other side of the street, get out of the blast zone, while we figure out what's going on, so we can eliminate the threat."
