INDIANAPOLIS -- More than a dozen protesters were arrested Monday afternoon after they blocked a busy downtown Indianapolis street during rush hour. The group was demonstrating as part of the "Poor People's Campaign" and started at Monument Circle before making their way to the an area outside of the Statehouse. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the scene after reports of about 50 people blocking the road. Responding officers tried to talk to the protesters and gave them multiple warnings that if they did not leave the street they would be arrested. Police say they spoke to the protesters individually and tried to get them to move, but after being left with no alternative they took five women and nine men into custody. All 14 were arrested for obstruction of traffic. The group claims they were protesting against poverty, racism and other important issues.  925

In response to a growing trend on social media, the Food and Drug Administration published a public warning this week about the dangers of taking too much of an allergy medication, diphenhydramine, commonly known as Benadryl.“We are aware of news reports of teenagers ending up in emergency rooms or dying after participating in the “Benadryl Challenge” encouraged in videos posted on the social media application TikTok,” the statement reads.When a teen girl died in August in Oklahoma City, her family blamed the 15-year-old’s death on a Benadryl overdose. The family blamed a “challenge” on TikTok where participants take a dozen or so doses of the allergy medication to experience hallucinations.Earlier this year, there were reports out of Fort Worth, Texas that three teens became sick and had to be rushed to the hospital after taking large amounts of the medication. According to Newsweek, when they recovered, the teens told officers they had taken the allergy medication as part of the TikTok challenge.Taking more than the recommended dose of Benadryl “can lead to serious heart problems, seizures, coma, or even death,” the FDA states.“We are investigating these reports and conducting a review to determine if additional cases have been reported,” the FDA stated. “We also contacted TikTok and strongly urged them to remove the videos from their platform and to be vigilant to remove additional videos that may be posted.”Johnson & Johnson, who manufacture Benadryl, released a statement to media outlets stating, in part, “The health and safety of people who use our products is our top priority. The BENADRYL TikTok trend is extremely concerning, dangerous and should be stopped immediately.”The FDA reminds parents and caregivers to lock up medicines to prevent accidental overdoses. It's official: The NBA is coming back on Dec. 22.The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have struck a deal on rules for this coming season, setting the stage for what will be a frenzied few weeks before games resume. Teams will play a 72-game schedule, with the league announcing the full regular-season and broadcast schedules at a later date.The league said a new system would be used to ensure that the split of basketball-related income continues, one of the many details that had to be collectively bargained with the union because the current agreement between the sides had a great deal of language needed reworking because of the coronavirus pandemic.Teams will be able to negotiate with free agents beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Nov. 20, and at 12:01 p.m. ET on Nov. 22, teams will be able to sign them, the league announced in a press release.The league said the salary cap and tax level would remain the same heading into the new season. During the 2019-20 season, the cap was 9.14 million, with the tax level at 2,627,000."A new system will be used to ensure the parties' agreed-upon split of basketball-related income (BRI)," the league said in the news release. Indonesian police have vowed to crackdown on the distribution of bootleg alcohol, as deaths this month connected to the consumption of illegally produced toxic liquor exceeded 86.The majority of the deaths were in the province of West Java, but have also been reported in the capital Jakarta, and South Kalimantan, said national police spokesman Inspector General Setyo Wasisto."They (bootleggers and their distributors) are part of a close knit community. Sometimes, when police come to check on a tip they have already put the bootleg alcohol away. They know who their customers are when they come. It's much like a clandestine narcotics network," Setyo said."In the past, bootleg alcohol was found to be a mixture of alcohol and energy drinks. Some are a mix of pure alcohol, carbonated drinks and an ingredient used in anti-mosquito repellent."Police have promised to stamp out the scourge before the Islamic holy month of Ramadan beginning mid-May, with a new task force being created to handle the assignment.Seven people have been arrested so far in connection with the deaths, four in Jakarta and three in West Java province, said Argo Yuwono, a spokesman for South Jakarta police.In response to the recent spate of poisonings, police have rounded-up sellers of bootleg alcohol in affected areas, and sent samples of seized liquor to the country's Drug and Food Control Agency for forensic evaluation, according to the state-run Antara news agency."We have taken the blood and urine samples along with that of the drink.
