Hard seltzers grew rapidly in popularity in 2020; contributing to an aluminum can shortage reported earlier this year, and finding more space in fridges because of stay-at-home orders and people skipping the bar and drinking at home.Bud Light would like to remind people seltzer is not just a warm weather drink.Their winter holiday-themed ugly sweater pack features three holiday season flavors: apple crisp, peppermint pattie and gingersnap.Bud Light’s cranberry hard seltzer is available year round, and is added to the holiday season pack. The ugly sweater pack featuring the holiday season flavors will be on shelves next week in early November. The hard seltzer rise in popularity started before the pandemic, and has seen several major brands join the market including Bud Light, Coca-Cola, Coors, etc. Hard seltzer sales at liquor and grocery stores increased more than 300% between 2018 and 2019. 911

Heads (and eyes) up, skywatchers! The annual Perseid meteor shower is underway and will hit its peak this weekend. The meteor shower, so named because the meteors appear to come from the constellation Perseus, lasts for several weeks – from July 17 to Aug. 24 – but peak meteor activity will take place between about 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 12 and 4 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, according to NASA.During the peak, one can expect to see as many as 60 or 70 meteors per hour.Night sky conditions should be great for meteor viewing: The peak coincides perfectly with the new moon, meaning the sky will be plenty dark and meteors will be easy to spot. Most meteor showers are best after midnight. 702

Grand jury recordings of the Breonna Taylor case released on Friday reveal initial interviews police conducted with Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker."I'm scared. I don't know what to say," Walker told investigators on the same day his girlfriend was shot and killed in their apartment during a drug raid by Louisville Metro Police.Grand jurors listened to a series of interviews police conducted with Walker.Walker said he and Taylor were watching a movie when the first knock on the door happened. As more knocks came, Walker told investigators the repeatedly yelled, 'Who is it?' with no response."She's yelling at the top of her lungs, and I am too at this point. No answer. No response. Nothing," Walker said. "I was scared to death."Knocking continued as they were getting dressed. Walker told investigators he grabbed his gun at that point."It's the middle of the night, [someone is] knocking on the door and not even saying who they are. What are you going to do if you're at home with your family, and somebody is knocking on your door, and you don't know who it is after you've asked?" Walker defended himself when investigators questioned him later about the gun. While walking to the door, Walker said he saw the door come off the hinges."I let just let off one shot. I still can't see who it is or anything," he recounted.Attorney General Daniel Cameron has said Walker's bullet hit Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly's thigh, but Walker's attorney has disputed the fact.Walker told investigators he and Taylor dropped to the ground when police began firing, and the gun fell from his hands. When the shooting stopped, Walker said he saw Taylor bleeding near him."She's right here bleeding, and nobody's coming, and I'm just confused and scared. I feel the same right now," he said.In questioning, investigators asked Walker about his and Taylor's history with law enforcement. Walker told them Taylor's record was clean while he had recently done jail time for a DUI. As investigators pressed Walker to answer why he believed police might be at Taylor's apartment that night, he responded that he didn't know. He said he thought someone was trying to break in."As I said, I and her have no dealings with the police," Walker said. "If I would have heard at the door it was the police, it would have changed the whole situation because there was nothing for us to be scared of."The files released Friday include 15 hours of audio recordings revealing the grand jury's proceedings over three days. This story was first reported by Sofia Millar at WLEX in Lexington, Kentucky. 2582

Grocery prices are still much higher than this time last year. We're paying more than 4% more. The USDA says prices are still expected to increase between 2.5% and 3.5% this year. The vice president of operations for one pasta brand says the price increase is related to promotions being canceled. He says manufacturers haven't had to offer them because of how sales have been. The pandemic has changed shopping habits too.“Many people keep lists, but not everyone, so people really like those impulse purchases,” said Melanie Zanoza Bartelme, Global Food Analyst at Mintel. “They like seeing kind of what the new things are, so I think in the future, we're going to see a great emphasis on figuring out how to sort of translate that for e-commerce and translating that even for the efficient grocery shopping, so maybe some of it is done in marketing, maybe some of it happens outside the store.”Bartelme says her company's research shows that even when the pandemic is over, people say they plan to do more home cooking. She says not to expect all the changes we've seen with store design to go away either.“I definitely think in store design going forward, we're going to see a lot more emphasis on safety and wider aisles and maybe putting in some of those technologies right at the start that can make these things more efficient and a way to pivot and be flexible when this or another type of issue comes up.”Another trend she expects to continue is people having an interest in supporting local with how they're getting their groceries. 1548

HAWAII — There was a close call at a preschool in Hawaii. The Hawaii State Department of Health says a classroom assistant mistook Pine-Sol for apple juice while serving snacks. The assistant at Kilohana United Methodist Church in East Oahu was preparing a snack for the children and grabbed a bottle of the cleaning liquid from a clean-up cart in the kitchen on November 27.The assistant apparently mistook it for apple juice because of its similar color, the school's director told the health department inspector.A classroom teacher smelled the cleaning product and stopped students from drinking it.EMS evaluated three students who took small sips of the cleaning liquid, but none of them needed treatment. One parent whose child was in the class says she was shocked a mistake like that could happen. The State Health Department says each year about a dozen people accidentally ingest Pine-Sol, and half of them are kids.CNN contributed to this report. 966
