CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) — A large plume of smoke could be seen over Camp Pendleton on Wednesday, as fire crews battled the De Luz Fire.The fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. on the west side of De Luz Road, according to Camp Pendleton officials. It wasn't clear how large the fire was at the time, but officials say there was a threat to structures and precautionary evacuations were taking place for De Luz Housing and surrounding buildings, including the CDC, school, and NCIS locations. An evacuation location was set up at Paige Field House.Just before 2:30 p.m., officials said the fire's forward progress had been stopped.Officials cautioned that smoke can be seen in the surrounding area.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 754

Champion is phasing out an exclusive line at Target and Wall Street isn't pleased.Hanesbrands, the parent of Hanes, Champion, Maidenform and Playtex, plunged 19% on Wednesday after it told investors that it would end a longtime deal with Target.The company reported that its profit last quarter fell 18% from the same time last year because costs and expenses both grew, adding to the stock selloff.Hanesbrands has partnered with Target, selling the C9 by Champion men's, women's and children's activewear clothing and shoe brand for 15 years. But the company won't renew its contract for the line with Target when it expires in early 2020.Once the deal lapses, Hanesbrands will still sell clothes there. The retailer accounted for 13% of the company's .4 billion in sales last year and was the biggest customer in its activewear business. Target was Hanesbrands' second largest buyer overall behind Walmart.C9 has been a big cash driver for Hanesbrands, raking in 0 million in sales over the last 12 months. The line also includes sports equipment and extends to plus-size shoppers and pregnant women.Champion is the company's second-largest brand behind Hanes, and it has been growing as it heads to retailers in new markets, including Europe and Asia. "We have driven a brand elevation strategy for Champion to capitalize on these consumer dynamics."The brand's global sales grew 18% last quarter, and Hanesbrands projects Champion will reach more than billion in sales by 2022.Although the company said ending the C9 contract with Target won't affect its long-term forecast for Champion, analysts grilled Hanesbrands executives for answers on why the deal expired and how it planned to replace C9 sales.Evans said Hanesbrands hasn't determined whether it will end the line after 2020, but he left the door open to continuing C9 at another retailer: "There is equity in that brand."One analyst on the call, Doug Thomas at Gamco Investors, believed Target made a mistake by walking away from C9."I just feel like Target must be really out of touch with maybe their core consumers," he said. (KGTV) - Two teenagers were stopped in their tracks when they looked into a tree and found a creature looking back at them along a Carlsbad street.Two Fridays ago, around 10:30 a.m., a freshman college student did a double take while walking along Babilonia Street in the La Costa area. He called a friend, who drove right over. They made a quick recording."Omigod, look at him," one of the teens is heard whispering in the video.Perched in a tree, about 25 feet up, was a mountain lion, growling.The mother of one of the teens tells ABC 10News soon after they stopped recording, they looked up, and it was gone.Lauren DuBois of Project Wildlife at the San Diego Humane Society, says it's hard to tell the big cat whether the mountain lion was a juvenile or an adult. She says it's not surprising it was in a tree."Not unusual at all. They will climb trees, and rest in trees quite often," said DuBois.Dubois says it was likely relaxing after a long night."They can have up to 100 square miles of a territory. Most of time they are hunting from dusk to dawn, so a lot of the time, that’s where (tree) they will be resting," said DuBois.The concern? Less than half a mile away, is La Costa Meadows Elementary School, which began in-person learning in October.Neighbors tell us there have been sightings of a mountain lion in nearby Box Canyon for years. One of those neighbors did file a report of the most recent sighting with state Fish and Wildlife officials.DuBois say this big cat wasn't being aggressive. What about the growl?"Hey, I’m up here. Don’t want you to be there. I'm going to take off now," said Dubois.She says if you ever do spy a mountain lion in a tree, slowly back away and maintain eye contact."It's probably going to just leave.
