The owner of a?dog that was stolen Saturday evening from a Petco in Palm Beach Gardens was reunited with her pet Tuesday morning.The dog's owner, Tara Harris, said police called her in the middle of the night to say they found her pet Maltese-mix named Teddy. Harris arrived at the Palm Beach Gardens police station at about 5 a.m. local time to pickup Teddy, who is 11-years-old, blind and diabetic.Palm Beach Gardens police said they arrested Heather Ryan, 48, who had the dog in her possession. Circumstances of the arrest have not been released by police. However, police said Ryan was arrested near Legacy Place off PGA Boulevard and charged with grand theft.Harris wanted to thank police and the public for their help reuniting her with Teddy.“I’ll never be able to put into words how unbelievably amazing it was (to be reunited with Teddy)," Harris said. "I can’t express into words how happy I am to have him back in my arms with my family."The dog, which lost 1.2 pounds in three days, was taken to a veterinarian to be evaluated. Teddy was slightly dehydrated when he was found overnight and is now on an IV since his blood sugar levels were high.   1247

Election 2020 is technically almost over.According to the American Psychological Association’s latest survey, nearly 70% of adults said the election is a significant source of stress.Compare that to the 2016 election, when 52% of adults said they were that stressed.And voters aren’t just stressed about their candidate winning or losing—there’s also so much confusion about filling out your ballot correctly or possible unrest after the results.Dr. Francoise Adan is a psychiatrist at University Hospitals Connor Integrative Health Network. She said election anxiety is especially tough right now because it’s coupled with pandemic stress, racial unrest, and personal losses in 2020.Mental health experts are preparing for an influx of calls in the days after the election, just as they did in 2016.“I saw a lot of people who were disappointed and sad and angry,” Adan said. “And of course, we also saw a lot of people who rejoiced and celebrated—but those are not the people who are going to ask for help.”Adan said feelings of sadness, disappointment, grief, fear and even mourning if your candidate loses are normal.But for some people, those feelings are going to be really profound and interfere with daily activities—and that’s when Adan said it’s important to seek professional help for your mental health.For others, Adan said, self-care is key—yes, you’ve heard that over and over again, but that’s because it works.“And you need to find the one that works for you. It could be exercising, meditation, breathing techniques. Gratitude is one of my favorites,” she said.The doctor also recommends a heavy dose of compassion, no matter the results.“Not only compassion for others and understanding that yes, some people are winners and some people are going to lose—but at the end of the day, we are all in this together. And not only have compassion for others but compassion for ourselves,” Adan said.Voters we spoke to said no matter the outcome they’ll take it all in stride.“What am I going to do if my candidate loses? I’m going to support whoever is there,” said voter Caroline Rogers. “I’m going to believe and hope that this person that we end up electing, whether it be somebody I voted for or not, that they’re going to do what’s best for the country as a whole.”“Accept the outcome,” a voter named Genesis said. “It’s one America, regardless of who you vote for. You accept the results and you follow that person.”Looking at historical perspective is always helpful, Adan said. However, there is a sentiment among many Latino voters that their vote won’t make a difference. Dora Ramirez, of El Paso, Texas, tells me she is sick and tired of issues facing the Latino community not being addressed by politicians. “We bring money into the economy, we work in the economy. People would not have strawberries or lettuce or avocados if people did not go out and work, and yet they are dismissing us as if we are nothing," said Ramirez.In an effort to engage voters, volunteers were out at a local food pantry. Every person driving up for food is asked if they are registered to vote and if they know where to drop off their ballot. Many have described the Latino vote as a “sleeping giant." A Pew Research study is showing the “sleeping giant” could come to life during this election showing there are 5.6 million registered Latino voters in Texas, 7.9 million in California, 3.1 million in Florida, 2 million in New York and more than a million in Arizona. Latino voters in Texas could potentially turn it into a swing state.Beto O’Rourke and his team from Powered By The People are ramping up their efforts to get people to register to vote. O’Rourke says he has heard from many Latino voters that they don’t feel included by political parties and will not vote, but a group that he is seeing become quite active is the younger Latino community. “Those young people, I believe, are not only going to vote in record numbers, but they are getting their folks and their grandparents and the people in their lives to vote as well," said O’Rourke.Miranda Escobar Gregory is one of those young Latinos. At 20 years old, this will be her first time voting. “I know that I now have more of a voice than I did 2 years ago," said Escobar Gregory. The National Transportation Safety Board is launching a probe that will focus on how first responders handled a fatal crash of a Tesla Model S in Florida this week.Two people died Tuesday evening in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after a gray 2014 Tesla Model S ran off the road and collided with a concrete wall. The vehicle then caught on fire, engulfing the car in flames, local police said.The NTSB said in a statement Wednesday that the investigation will "primarily focus on emergency response in relation to the electric vehicle battery fire, including fire department activities and towing operations."The driver and front seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. A third passenger in the back seat survived and was taken to the hospital, authorities said.Police said the car's speed was likely a factor in the incident. The NTSB did not indicate that it suspects first responders did something wrong. The man suspected of killing and wounding multiple people at Strasbourg's famed Christmas market was killed by French police, following a shoot-out not far from the scene of Tuesday's attack.Authorities announced Friday a fourth person had died as a result of being shot by the suspect, and 12 others are wounded.Cherif Chekatt, the 29-year old suspect, was shot dead on Thursday evening, two days after he first disappeared sparking a massive manhunt involving hundreds of police officers, soldiers and anti-terror specialists from three European countries.French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said police recognized a man who looked like Chekatt walking on the street in Strasbourg's Neudorf district on Thursday night and approached him. He opened fire on officers when they tried to question him, he said.Police returned fire, killing the suspect, Castaner said."As I am speaking to you, I am thinking about the victims and the wounded. I am thinking of those close to them. I am thinking of Strasbourg and France that was hit by this terrible attack," Castaner said.On Thursday, Strasbourg police said the death toll from the attack had risen to three, after one person succumbed to their injuries. He exchanged fire with security forces, suffering an injury to his arm. The gunman's father, mother and two brothers were also questioned by police, a source close to the investigation told CNN.Checkatt was already known to security services as a possible threat, police said.
