SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Masked intruders threatened a couple with guns and slashed the male victim with a knife today during a daybreak residential robbery in a Corridor-area neighborhood.The 27-year-old man and 20-year-old woman awoke at their residence in the 3200 block of Bramson Place about 6:30 a.m. to find the thieves next to their bed, pointing guns at them and demanding valuables, according to San Diego police. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked San Diego-area residents Wednesday to be on the lookout for a parolee wanted in connection with a recent Northern California homicide.Joshua Thomas Vaden, 30, is suspected of murdering a South Sacramento man last month, according to police.Relatives who had been unable to contact 49-year-old Army veteran Demian Michael for days found him slain in his home on the afternoon of April 14. Detectives soon identified Vaden as Michael's suspected killer, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.Vaden is a transient with gang ties and prior arrests for vehicle theft, resisting officers, carjacking, assault, battery, robbery, burglary, lewd acts with a child and failure to register as a sex offender, officials said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Friday for help in identifying a pair of thieves who have swindled San Diego-area senior citizens out of thousands of dollars in recent weeks via a lottery scam. The crimes occurred on at least a half-dozen occasions during March and victimized retirement-age Hispanic women in various local communities, including Vista and the city of San Diego, said Sgt. Karl Miller of the sheriff's Financial Crimes/Elder Abuse Unit. To con the victims, one of the perpetrators, calling herself Francisca, approaches them at grocery stores and initiates conversations in Spanish, according to investigators. During the interactions, the crook claims to have a friend with a winning lottery ticket who cannot claim the prize because he or she is not a U.S. citizen. At that point, a man who goes by the name Jose wanders up and pretends to overhear the women. He chimes in, saying he knows of a way to get the lottery winnings, if the victims are willing to provide upfront money. If they do, he promises, they will get a portion of the monetary prize. At that point, the swindlers drive the victims' banks or homes to get cash. Once the thieves have the money, they drop the victims off in an unfamiliar location, leaving them stranded until they can get help. The targeted women have lost between ,500 and ,000 each, according to sheriff's investigators. The female perpetrator is described as 40 to 65 years old, with dark hair and a medium build. Her accomplice stand about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, has short black hair and is heavyset. Both are Hispanic, with accents that do not sound Mexican in origin. Surveillance cameras have captured images of the thieves. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspected hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck and gravely injured a bicyclist last month in the Midtown area was arrested in a shopping center parking lot in Kern County, it was reported Wednesday.San Diego police identified the suspected driver last week as Mauricio Flores and also released the name of a woman, Jessica Bailey, suspected of riding in the van with Flores.The pair were in a 2005 Dodge Caravan with Georgia license places that struck a bicyclist around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 on West Washington Street at India Street in the Midtown area, police said.RELATED: Bicyclist sustains life-threatening injury in hit-and-runThe victim suffered a life-threatening head injury and remains in the hospital, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.In video shot by a witness and released by San Diego police, the driver could be seen stopping after the collision and getting out of the van.The video then showed the driver and passenger going to the injured man on the side of the road before the driver tugs the bent bicycle out from under the front of the van and sets it aside.
