Baltimore, Md. — A Baltimore man is free after spending more than half of his life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.Around 5 p.m. Monday night Clarence Shipley took his first breath of free air in 27 years after being exonerated on all charges for the 1991 murder of Kevin Smith.“Freedom feels good,” he said, smiling ear to ear.His mother Ola Shipley always knew he was innocent. He couldn’t wait to give her a hug. “I was waiting on that, God is good, I was waiting on that,” Clarence said. “I’m just waiting to go to church with her with my testimony.”Ola lost a lot of years with her son.“We were going into jail to see him, but we still couldn’t hug him like your loved ones that’s at home," she said. "You can’t do things with him because you’re always confined down.”Clarence's son, Clarence Jr., was forced to figure out life without his dad around.“Growing up without my father coming from the neighborhood I come from, it’s tough,” Clarence Jr. said. “You have to learn how to adapt to be a man. I’m just happy and excited to see how life is with my father, ya know?”He was right there with his arm around his father’s shoulder as they walked out of the court house.“It brought tears to my eyes. An arrest has been made after authorities say a driver intentionally rammed another car in Southern California, killing three teenage boys and injuring three others. The California Highway Patrol says the Toyota Prius was hit Sunday night in Temescal Valley, went off the road and slammed into a tree. Three boys died and three had moderate injuries. A witness followed the other car and CHP officers arrested 42-year-old Anurag Chandra of Corona in a neighborhood near the accident scene. He was booked on suspicion of murder with malice. Atlanta’s mayor says two police officers have been fired and three placed on desk duty pending review over excessive use of force during a protest incident Saturday night.Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said at a news conference Sunday that she and police Chief Erika Shields made the decision after reviewing body-camera footage. Shields called it “really shocking to watch.”Officials say the incident came to light via video that circulated online.It shows a group of police officers in riot gear and gas masks surround a car being driven by a man with a woman in the passenger seat. The officers pull the woman out and appear to use a stun gun on the man. They use zip-tie handcuffs on the woman on the ground. The couple did not appear to be fighting police on the video.Bottoms said charges have been dropped against the woman, and the man has been released.Local reporters, who captured footage of the incident, said the police had earlier broken the glass on the car. Authorities say a man has been struck by a float and killed by a Mardi Gras float during a parade in New Orleans. It was the second death in days involving a parade float and cast a pall over the Carnival festivities. Police said in a statement that the death occurred Saturday night on a downtown parade route of the Krewe of Endymion. The rest of the parade was canceled. The New Orleans mayor said the city is grieving anew after a woman was killed on a parade route Wednesday. The man's name wasn't immediately released. 536
