The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is embarking on a rebranding effort of sorts.The church, commonly referred to as the Mormons, really wants people to stop using that word. It also wants people to stop using LDS as an abbreviation. From now on, it prefers that people use the church's full name, and when a shortened reference is needed, to just use "the Church" or "Church of Jesus Christ."These preferences are contained in a new style guide that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released Thursday. It states that while "the term 'Mormon Church' has long been publicly applied to the Church as a nickname, it is not an authorized title, and the Church discourages its use." It also asks that the term "Mormons" not be used in references to members.Also out: the word "Mormonism," which the style guide states is an "inaccurate" word to use to describe the "doctrine, culture and lifestyle unique to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." The doors to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's office are getting a nearly 9,000 upgrade.The Interior Department confirmed the project Thursday, saying it is both necessary to replace old doors that are in "disrepair" and attributing the high cost to the historical nature of the building.News of the 8,670 contract comes as several agencies are facing scrutiny over excessive spending. Last month, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson withdrew an order for pricey dining room furniture, including a ,000 table. Zinke is also under fire for questionable travel habits.Zinke was unaware of the expense for the doors, Interior spokeswoman Heather Swift said, saying the project was driven by "career facilities and security officials" as part of a decade-long modernization of the 1930s building."The secretary was not aware of this contract but agrees that this is a lot of money for demo, install, materials, and labor," Swift said in a statement. "Between regulations that require historic preservation and outdated government procurement rules, the costs for everything from pencils to printing to doors is astronomical. This is a perfect example of why the secretary believes we need to reform procurement processes."The new doors will be made of fiberglass. The previous sets of doors have been damaged for years, according to an Interior official, to the point where wind and water come into the office during inclement weather, which in turn damaged the historic hardwood floors. The City of Columbus took down a Christopher Columbus statue from in front of City of Hall on Wednesday, removing what Mayor Andrew Ginther called a symbol of “patriarchy, oppression and divisiveness.”Ginther announced the decision to remove the statue on June 18."That does not represent our great city, and we will no longer live in the shadow of our ugly past,” Ginther said. “Now is the right time to replace this statue with artwork that demonstrates our enduring fight to end racism and celebrate the themes of diversity and inclusion.”The statue, which was a gift from the people of Genoa, Italy, in 1955, will be placed in safekeeping at a secure city facility. The city asked the Columbus Art Commission to launch a community-driven process that embraces diversity. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared the Boeing 737 Max to return to the skies, The Associated Press reports.The plane has been grounded in the U.S. since March 2019 after it was involved in two deadly crashes just months after initial orders for the model had been fulfilled. The two crashes — one which occurred in Africa, the other in Asia — killed a combined 346 people.In Congressional hearings last September, Boeing officials say the plane's software included a fatal flaw that caused a nosedive in certain situations.In addition to the human cost of the software error, the Boeing 737 Max has proven to be malignant for Boeing's business. According to CNN, Boeing says the grounding of the 737 Max has resulted in billion in direct costs. Boeing's stock fell 100 points between March 2019 and January 2020 — a massive loss even before the COVID-19 pandemic dragged the entire market down with historic losses. "These 20 months they took to look at every possible issue with the aircraft is more than enough time to make it safe to go back in the air," said Kevin Kuhlmann, an Aviation and Aerospace Science Professor at Metro State University. "It's no small undertaking to go through and develop this training, put the pilots through the training and absorb the cost of the training."In October, American Airlines announced it would begin using the plane on certain routes in late December, pending FAA approval. The first large head-to-head comparison of two opioid addiction medications found that, although they were equally effective in getting people off of high levels of opioids, users had a significantly more difficult time starting a regimen of naltrexone, compared with buprenorphine.Buprenorphine is commonly known by the the brand name Suboxone, and naltrexone is sold under the brand name Vivitrol.The study, published Tuesday in the Lancet, looked at 570 patients with opioid addiction at eight inpatient treatment centers across the country for 24 weeks. Half of the group was assigned to naltrexone and the other half to bupenorphine.Six percent of those enlisted to use buprenorphine were unable to start their treatment, whereas 28% of those assigned to naltrexone dropped out before starting the therapy. 824
