CINCO RANCH, Texas – Investigators say a 29-year-old man was shot and killed by intruders who broke into his suburban Houston home.The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says Brenton Estorffe was killed early Wednesday at his home in Cinco Ranch, a community 26 miles west of Houston.Sheriff Troy Nehls says Estorffe told a 911 operator that someone had broken a window in the back of his house. The man confronted the two intruders and was shot. The intruders then fled."The father woke up and confronted apparently two individuals, at which time there was some gunshots that were fired and the homeowner, a white male, is deceased inside the residence," said Nehls.Nehls says Estorffe didn't appear to be armed. His wife and two young children were not injured."It's sad, sad," said Nehls. "We have a homeowner now here in Fort Bend County who is no longer with us, and the father of two small children. Breaks your heart."Relatives said on social media that Estorffe was an Australian native. Craig Brewer was at a Waffle House in Gainesville, Florida, at nearly 3 in the morning Sunday, not far from the University of Florida campus.He was in a generous mood, walking from table to table and picking up the tab for customers' late-night meals. He handed others a bill. It wasn't the first time he's paid for strangers' meals at Waffle House, his cousin, Deborah Jenkins, told CNN.Jenkins said that the father of two was raising people's spirits early that morning and someone even posted a Snapchat video of Brewer tipping the waiters.Meanwhile, the Waffle House was getting crowded with people coming by after the nearby bars closed. Things started getting unruly, Alachua County Sheriff's Office spokesman Brett Rhodenizer told CNN, and someone called 911 to have officers settle down the crowd.Then Brewer, 41, spoke to one woman about paying for her meal, and the conversation turned sour.Another of Brewer's cousins, Rasheeda Davis, was with Brewer at the Waffle House. Davis told CNN the woman arguing with Brewer "said she would spit in his face." Davis added, "It was all petty," noting that the situation didn't appear to be extreme.But a man, Ezekiel Hicks, was with the woman arguing with Brewer, according the police report. Democratic donor Ed Buck has been charged with operating a drug house after a 37-year-old man suffered a nonfatal overdose at his apartment last week. Two other men have died of overdoses at Buck's house.Buck is accused of injecting the man with methamphetamine at his West Hollywood apartment on September 11, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
