MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Holly Vo works at a family-owned business in Minneapolis, Minnesota. “All these are small business – family owned,” Vo said. 1986 was the year Vo’s father started income tax and immigration translation services. His prices haven’t changed in decades. “He’s like, ‘we’re a minority business, we need to help the minority community,'” Vo said. It’s a minority community that is now mourning the horrific death of 46-year-old George Floyd. People seeking justice immediately took to the streets. But unfortunately, what started as peaceful protests, progressed into riots with looting and vandalism. “I understand the injustice, I understand the anger, but it’s just sad. This whole street was so dead during COVID, and we were trying to survive. Only to see this – I know these owners,” Vo said. Vo’s business was spared, but many others are beyond repair. Others who live in the community say they’re upset to see their neighborhood in shambles. “It was time to react, but this, all our buildings boarded up and everything. I feel like that wasn’t good to do to our neighborhood, or any neighborhood where people got to live. People can’t even go to the store. People need food,” a St. Paul local said. “I think it was Kennedy who said that ‘when non-violent revolution becomes impossible, that violent revolution becomes inevitable,'” Minnesota Psychological Association president Willie Garrett said. Gluttony and greed are typically the main hallmarks of Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but they certainly don’t have to be. While devouring a plate full of hot food and shopping for the hottest items can provide a dose of satisfaction, nothing compares to giving back. There are endless ways to volunteer or donate your time around Thanksgiving. Here are a few ideas: Run in a Turkey Trot race It has become a tradition for some in the United States to participate in Turkey Trot races around Thanksgiving. Not only do they help you burn off the calories from all the food, the proceeds from many races are donated to local organizations to help those in need. These types of races vary in names and length. They’ve also been called things like “Drumstick Dash” or “Mashed Potato Mile." Most Turkey Trots are in the 3-to 5-mile distance category, but some are longer or shorter. Volunteer your time If running’s not your thing, there are other ways to get out and help your community. The amount of opportunities can be overwhelming, but resources like 1068

The appearance comes after Rittenhouse was extradited from Illinois on Friday, to face charges in Wisconsin after he allegedly killed two people during Kenosha unrest. Illinois Judge OKs Extradition Request Of Kyle Rittenhouse To WisconsinRittenhouse's lawyers attempted to delay or prevent the extradition process, saying the criminal complaint was not signed by a proper magistrate in Wisconsin, which is required by law. However, on Friday, Judge Paul Novak ruled that Rittenhouse would be extradited. Wisconsin Court records show that Rittenhouse is now facing five felony charges and a misdemeanor. Those charges include first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree intentional homicide, and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Rittenhouse is being held on a million bond. Baylor Football's season opener against Louisiana Tech has been postponed after Louisiana Tech saw an increase in COVID-19 cases following Hurricane Laura.Baylor-Louisiana Tech Season Opener Postponed? https://t.co/tL9aDCgBki#SicEm | #BUiltDifferent pic.twitter.com/KSa2ZE1XAV— Baylor Football (@BUFootball) September 9, 2020 Kickoff was initially set for 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, September 12 at McLane Stadium. Both teams have agreed to monitor dates throughout the season to potentially makeup the game. "We are incredibly disappointed to announce the postponement of our upcoming football game against Louisiana Tech," said Baylor Director of Athletics Mack B. Rhoades. "However, in the interest of the health and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, we are confident in this unfortunate but necessary course of action. To the Baylor and Louisiana Tech student-athletes and communities, we share in your disappointment and look ahead to resuming play.""We are obviously very disappointed that we will not be able to open the season this weekend at Baylor," said Louisiana Tech Director of Athletics Tommy McClelland. "However, with the number of recent positive COVID19 results and contact tracing, it is simply not possible. We would be putting our student-athletes at risk."It is obvious that the impact of Hurricane Laura in our community a few weeks ago really sparked our significant increase in numbers. With 95 percent of our city losing power for days – even up to a week in many areas – our student-athletes were forced to find places to stay and some even had family from south Louisiana that came northward to stay with them. So many things that we were able to control for the month of August became out of our control, and I think the numbers prove that it took its toll."The days leading up to this outbreak, we had a stretch of three weeks with only one positive case. So the protocols we had in place were working prior to Hurricane Laura."Adjusted game dates and times will be communicated to original ticket holders via email as more information is released.
