(AP) -- The American Medical Association on Tuesday called for an immediate ban on all electronic cigarettes and vaping devices.The group adopted the sweeping stance at a policy-making meeting in San Diego.  Abortion rates in the United States have dropped to their lowest level in 10 years, according to a report released Wednesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.From 2006 to 2015, the year of the latest completed survey, reported abortions from participating areas fell 24%, from 842,855 to 638,169.Going back to 1969, the CDC has completed its "abortion surveillance" to measure the number and characteristics of women who obtain legal abortions. Requests for information go out to the central health agencies in all 50 states, plus Washington and New York City. The most recent surveillance included voluntary abortion data from 49 areas, the exceptions being California, Maryland and New Hampshire.What researchers found was a striking decrease from where abortion rates were a decade ago. In addition to the steep drop in the number of reported abortions, the rates fell in two other categories. The number of abortions among women 15-44 went down 26%, from 15.9 to 11.8 abortions per 1,000 women. And the number of abortions per 1,000 live births went down by 19%, from 233 to 188.Compared with the previous year, 2014, there was a 2% decrease in abortions across the three measures.Because reporting is voluntary and requirements for reporting vary across the country, the CDC acknowledges that the findings have limitations. The number of abortions reported to the CDC, for example, is 68% to 71% of the number established in a census of abortion providers by the Guttmacher Institute, a research and policy group focused on reproductive health and rights, the report says.But still, the findings offer significant insights into how abortion is trending in the United States."The new CDC report shows a continuation of long-term declines in abortions," said Rachel Jones, principal research scientist at the Guttmacher Institute. "We're going to have coverage from our helicopter unit."He added there will be 350 officers on the ground plus several large vehicles like dump trucks and buses to act as makeshift barriers.Some runners say crossing the finish line has become even more imperative now than ever."Just because this may be harder or scarier, it's not going to stop me," Sullivan said.Esther Reincke is dedicating her run to Cameron Robinson, who died in October's shooting.Robinson was her co-worker and running buddy."I can run now and Cameron can't," Reincke said.  SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Strong and gusty Santa Ana winds, low humidity and high temperatures will persist Friday, with a red flag warning denoting a strong risk of wildfire in effect for the San Diego County mountains and valleys.The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning that went into effect at 10 a.m. Thursday in the county mountains and valleys and lasts until 10 p.m. Friday. The NWS also issued a high wind warning for the county mountains and valleys that remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.Along with low humidity levels, the strong Santa Ana winds blowing north to northeast are to blame for the fire danger, with winds of 20 to 30 mph in the forecast and gusts near 55 mph possible near the top of the county mountains, according to the NWS. Humidity was expected to drop to 3-8 percent Friday.Fuels are very dry and fires will grow rapidly and be difficult to control upon ignition, according to the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index.Warm seasonal temperatures were also expected to add to the potential fire danger. High temperatures Friday will be 81 to 86 degrees in the western valleys, 73 to 78 near the foothills and 60 to 69 in the mountains, NWS forecasters said.With the heightened fire danger, authorities recommended that residents avoid outdoor burning and have emergency preparedness kits in order."An emergency can happen at any time," a forecaster said in a statement on the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index Website. "Clean debris away from your house. Charge your cell phone and make sure you have plenty of gas."Low humidity with poor overnight recovery will continue through at least the middle of next week and another round of gusty Santa Ana winds is expected Sunday and Monday, NWS forecasters said. 1754
