KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Doctors across the country are working to figure out a medical mystery that's left a Smithville, Missouri, teenager losing her senses, including her vision. Jordyn Walker is 15 years old and now permanently blind, part of a medical mystery she's been battling for more than a year and a half. "I just hope it never happens again," she said. "I don't really know what else I can lose." Walker's symptoms first appeared in July 2017. At first, the teen experienced stomach pains associated with her colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease. Then her face began to swell and her eyes, ears and nose began to bleed. Walker lost her sense of taste and smell. "It was terrifying knowing that there is nothing I could do for her and just watching her go through this," said her mom, Kendyll Walker. Tests results in 2017 from an out-of-state hospital came back normal so Walker's family believed it was a one-time thing. A year later, she went to the emergency room at The University of Kansas Hospital. Her severe symptoms had returned and were much worse. "How rapid her face started swelling and how rapid the pressure in her eyes went up were quite alarming," said Dr. Travis Langner, who is the division chief for the hospital's pediatric critical care unit. Walker stayed in the pediatric critical care unit and underwent emergency eye surgery. The pressure on her eyes was too severe and caused her to lose her sight permanently. "It's frustrating for the family, it's frustrating for us not to have pinpointed the answer and have a definite diagnosis," Langner said. "But we've gotten enough answers from the tests, enough negative answers, to know what it's not. So now it's finding the definitive answer of what it is." KANAWHA COUNTY, W.V. – A number of employees of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation have been suspended amid an investigation into a photograph showing a training class apparently giving a Nazi salute, officials said.The image shows the class members each with a raised arm as the text above reads "HAIL BYRD!" The faces of the trainees and several other people have been blurred out.The text refers to a training instructor for the class, said the state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, which released the photo.Jeff S. Sandy, cabinet secretary for the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, condemned the salute."It is distasteful, hurtful, disturbing, highly insensitive, and completely inappropriate," he wrote in a letter. "It undermines the high standards that have been set for our Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. It betrays the professionalism I have seen time and time again displayed and practiced by our brave correctional employees."Sen. I mean they sent us a video of it it ran beautiful," Abernathy said.After several emails with the owner, who claimed to be a widow, they paid ,200."They asked us to get six eBay cards at 0 a piece to do the down payment. The agreement was we would get the down payment paid and the vehicle would be delivered," Abernathy said.Abernathy was then asked to pay even more money."When we declined they said hold on we will put you over to the financial department and the phone went dead," Abernathy said. "I was pretty upset. I buckled. It tore me up. It destroyed our Christmas. We're still trying to recover from it. Twelve-hundred dollars is a pretty good loss."The manager of AMS Cars on the west side of Indianapolis at 10th Street and Raceway Road said his business has received thousands of phone calls from customers asking about vehicles they found on fake Facebook posts. Their message is if the car is not on their official website, it is not available."A lot of angry customers," AMS Cars manager Sam Sodhi said. "A majority of our time, about 5-7 people that work here go in every day to explain to people whether they are on on the phone email, text message, walk in, 'Hey, kindly report it. Please help us.'"Sodhi said AMS Cars received more than 8,000 phone calls in December about cars they don't have in stock.
