SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An Ocean Beach man was injured after two men stormed his home, beat him, and robbed him.Police say the 34-year-old victim was at his home on Cape May Ave. with a woman, possibly an ex-girlfriend, when there was a knock at the door at about 10 p.m.The woman answered the door and two men forced their way inside, one wielding an expandable baton and the other with a knife, police said.A struggle began between the victim and two suspects and the two men beat the victim several times, before ordering him to open a safe.After the suspect was unable to open the safe, the suspects rummaged through the home and stole several items, including credit cards. The two men then fled.The woman fled shortly after as well.The victim was treated at a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.Police described the suspect with a baton as a 20- to 25-year-old white male, 5-foot 10-inches, with thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and may have had his face painted black, police added. The man with the knife was described as a 25- to 30-year-old Hispanic man, 6-feet tall, weighing about 220 pounds, and wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested by Border Patrol agents after they reportedly discovered drugs hidden inside her child’s car seat and stroller.Agents say they stopped a 2015 Nissan Sentra at an unspecified location along Interstate 15 on June 12 around 6:15 p.m. The vehicle was driven by a 26-year-old male US citizen. Two women and three minor children were also in the vehicle. After searching the vehicle using a K-9, agents found several packages of drugs wrapped in cellophane and hidden inside one of the children’s car seat and stroller. Border Patrol says a child was sitting in the car seat when the drugs were found. The 23 packages contained methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin valued at 1,680, the agency says. Agents later discovered that the drugs were hidden by one of the female passengers, a 26-year-old US citizen. The woman was arrested and turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office while the three minor children were released into the custody of their 32-year-old aunt. 1023

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An East San Diego County military wife whose husband is accused of poisoning her with thallium is facing intensive rehabilitation, according to a GoFundMe account in her name.Race Uto, 27, was arrested in March on suspicion of giving his wife Brigida the heavy metal, which is found in rat poison and ant killers.A search warrant obtained by 10News indicated Brigida Uto had been sick since September 2017 and did not know the cause. She suffered weakness and hair loss, and was eventually near death, according to the warrant.RELATED: East San Diego County man suspected of poisoning his wifeDoctors determined Brigida ingested the Thallium, which was found in ‘extreme levels’ in her system when she was admitted to the hospital.The FBI, NCIS and San Diego County HazMat determined Brigida had been poisoned by someone with access to her food and drinks.Investigators searched the couple’s home in Dulzura and confiscated laptops, a coffee blender, four cups and other electronics.The warrant also shows that Race had an affair while he was deployed in the Navy and that the couple had gone through counseling.RELATED: Warrant reveals troubled marriage in poisoning caseRace told detectives he has no idea how his wife came into contact with the poison. She also said she had no idea who would want to hurt her.Brigida suffered significant nerve damage and doctors are unsure if she will regain feeling in her legs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After months without any organized sports or youth activities, the San Diego Junior Lifeguard program resumed Monday under strict guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.For Addison Watson, it was a day she thought would never come. On Monday, she joined hundreds of other kids to take part in the San Diego Junior Lifeguard program.“I’ve been sitting in my room on a desk with my computer, staring at a screen. This is nice to be outside,” Addison said.When the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down, there was a concern there wouldn’t be a program this summer.However, organizers pressed on and prepared just in case. Once the green light was given by San Diego County health officials, they had everything up and running.The program opened up with health measures in place, including having families do health screenings at home. Additionally, each participant and the entire staff will have to go through another health and temperature screening on site each day.Participants and staff are also required to wear masks and will have to follow social distancing guidelines. To help with distancing, the program will be spread out at more locations.The participants will also be broken up into smaller groups -- unlike before, they will stay within this group to keep the interaction to fewer people.Heather Rabe, program manager for the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Program, said, “We're following an operational safety protocol plan that we've been developing and working on and adjusting as new guidelines have come out for the last two months.”10News was also told other agencies within the state and outside of California will use this similar model when it comes to their aquatic programs. 1735

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An injured cyclist is searching for answers along with some items that disappeared after a possible hit-and-run crash Monday.Rick Cessinger started biking from Ocean Beach to his home in Mission Beach around 4 p.m. Monday after leaving the home of his friend, Janet Kelleher."He put his backpack and helmet on, and rides off," said Kelleher.The handyman biked down Catalina Boulevard. About a mile and a half away, there was a crash near the intersection of Catalina Boulevard and Tennyson Street, leaving Cessinger unconscious. A day later, Cessinger woke up in a hospital with six broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, a punctured lung, and little memory of what happened.A photo of the bike helmet reveals it was cracked in the back. Kelleher retired from a career in law enforcement."It seems to me he was hit from the back and ejected off the bike ... It's bad. It's disgraceful. How does someone hit someone and drive off?" said Kelleher.That question is just one of many. Here's another one: Was Cessinger also robbed? Paramedics left Cessinger a bag with his helmet and shoes. His backpack, containing his wallet and phone, is missing.
