Charlottesville, Virginia, is again bracing for journalists and protesters to converge on the city as jury selection begins Monday for the man accused of killing Heather Heyer at last year's Unite the Right rally.James Fields of Maumee, Ohio, is accused of plowing his Dodge Challenger into a crowd of counterprotesters during the August 2017 white nationalist gathering, killing Heyer and injuring several other people, police say.Heyer, 32, was a local paralegal and had attended the rally to speak out against white supremacy and racism. Her friends and families say she died for her beliefs.Fields stands charged with first-degree murder in Heyer's death. He also faces five counts of malicious wounding, three counts of aggravated malicious wounding and one count of failing to stop at an accident involving a death.Separately, he is charged with hate crimes in a 30-count federal indictment. Prosecutors in that case allege Fields espoused white supremacist ideals and denounced minorities on social media before traveling to Virginia for the rally. Once there, the indictment says, he drove his car into a crowd with the intention of hurting people he targeted based on his bigoted views.The 21-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges. You may know the name Vulcan Wireless because their transceivers about the size of your hand are helping NASA map the universe. "Of course we're the communication link so the images that come in they get transmitted through our radio waves," Kevin Lynaugh, Founder of Vulcan Wireless, said.ASTERIA launched in 2017, "ASTERIA (Arcsecond Space Telescope Enabling Research in Astrophysics) is a technology demonstration and opportunistic science mission to conduct astrophysical measurements using a CubeSat." Basically the telescope uses light to map stars and planets.That was their biggest project to date. Now NASA hopes their partnership will help increase connectivity for deeper space missions."When you have a spacecraft floating out there, if you don't have a data link it's a brick right? So we provide the communications," Lynaugh explained it's similar to how your Wifi modem works at home.In Vulcan Wireless's Lab, you'll find the same technology NASA uses."When we close this thing down and we lock it we're able to pump all the air out of it so we can simulate space environment with this," Lynaugh said. Johnson said it was "no secret that we had an unacceptably violent weekend," at the news conference.In three hours beginning at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, records show, 30 people were shot and two killed in 10 incidents. In all, over the weekend, there were 33 shooting incidents. Fourteen juveniles were shot, and an 11- and 13-year-old were killed."The city of Chicago experienced a violent night," Bureau of Patrol Chief Fred Waller said Sunday afternoon. "Some of these instances were targeted and were related to gang conflicts in those areas."In at least one incident, shooters opened fire into a crowded street party, Waller said.Johnson said the issue stemmed from a small group of people such as repeat gun offenders."This isn't a widespread issue among citizens of this city. CALEXICO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a vehicle driven by a U.S. Border Patrol agent near the U.S.-Mexico border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the incident happened about 8:40 p.m. Friday when the agent was driving to a spot along the border to investigate reports of people illegally crossing it. The agent’s vehicle hit a man who was lying in the road. The agent immediately rendered aid to the man until emergency medical services arrived. The agency says the man was first taken to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center in Palm Springs, where he died. 642
