TULSA, Oklahoma — The owner of a popular Tulsa bakery was arrested after she was accused of stealing baking products. Libby Morley, who also goes by Lauren Morley and Lauren Beesley, was taken to jail March 25 for felony larceny.She is accused of stealing about ,200 worth of butter, vanilla, chocolate chips and cream cheese from Sam's Club.An affidavit said on Nov. 2, an employee of Sam's club on 44th and Sheridan noticed Morley with 24 bottles of vanilla on her flatbed. The document said the employee noticed she was acting suspicious. After checking purchase history, the club reported to police they did not sell 24 bottles of vanilla that week. An internal investigation was launched within the store and found several other incidents where Morley did not pay, according to the affidavit. From Oct. 8 until Nov. 12, the store said she "did not make an effort to pay for the items and passed operational registers as the left the location." Throughout that period of time, the affidavit said she stole a total of 126 packages of butter, nine bags of chocolate chips, nine packages of cream cheese and 24 bottles of vanilla. Morley issued a statement through her public relations firm saying, "I deny the allegations against me. This is a misunderstanding. I'm working to clear my name." The overall quality of a new, model year 2019 vehicle was no better than in 2018, despite the average vehicle price increasing from year to year.In a study released Wednesday by J.D. Power and Associates, it measured the number of problems experienced during the first 90 days of ownership. Based on this standard, the study found 13 brands improved, while 18 worsened. Overall, it found that there were 93 problems per 100 vehicles with new cars. Some models, on average, had more than one problem per vehicle. The study found that Genesis was the best performing brand in 2019 with 63 problems per 100 vehicles. Genesis was followed by Kia with 70 problems per 100 vehicles. The worst performing auto brand was Jaguar with 130 problems per 100 vehicles. “Automakers continue to make progress in areas like infotainment that attract a lot of consumer attention,” said Dave Sargent, Vice President of Global Automotive at J.D. Power. “However, some traditional problems crept up this year including paint imperfections, brake and suspension noises, engines not starting and the ‘check engine’ light coming on early in the ownership experience. Also, more people are having issues with their advanced driver assistance systems, which are critical for building consumer trust in future automated vehicles.”J.D. Power notes that Hyundai Motor Group brands Genesis, Kia and Hyundai has widened the gap in quality. Hyundai ranked third with 71 problems per vehicle. The United States Army wants more soldiers. Last year, the recruitment goal was gaining 76,500 new recruits. The Army didn’t make that mission, enlisting only about 70,000 soldiers. This year, the recruitment goal is getting 68,000 new pairs of boots on the ground. Finding qualified candidates, however, isn’t what it used to be. “Ten years ago, it was pretty easy to find qualified individuals,” says U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Robert Dodge. “In the last couple years, it’s gone down.”In an attempt to help with recruiting, the US Army is trying something brand new this year: it built a gaming trailer on an 18-wheeler that will be taken across the country with the idea of getting more young people interested in joining the military through video games. “It is a way to attract a younger audience,” Sgt. Dodge says. “Sixty percent of Americans have some sort of gaming console.”Sgt. Dodge says 71 percent of Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 do not qualify to for military service.
