CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Three Coronado restaurants were closed for cleaning on Tuesday after employees tested positive for the coronavirus. One of the restaurants, The Henry, is facing backlash over accusations that it was not transparent with its patrons.On Facebook, The Henry posted the following message on Monday night.“Coronado neighbors,We apologize for not being more transparent with you about our first COVID positive case last week. Even though we messed up our communication, please know that we took all the right actions to make sure our guests, our employees and our restaurant space were as safe as possible before we re-opened.We went through our entire protocol for a COVID exposure the night after we became aware one of our employees was COVID positive. This includes third-party sanitation of the restaurant, contacting all employees before they returned to work to make sure we knew who had CDC defined exposure to the COVID employee and making sure all employees had access to testing at our cost, regardless of exposure. We got lucky that we were able to get this done so quickly. That has not always been the case. In another restaurant out-of-state, we had to close a restaurant for nearly a week as we waited for the sanitation company and sufficient staff to safely reopen. No one in our industry is happy about the fact we are all getting more experienced and better at responding to COVID exposures.Some of you have asked us why we did not notify the San Diego Health Department about the COVID positive employee. We know the employee's health care provider has notified the Health Department and that we, as employers, are not required to do so. But because of your question today and after calling the San Diego Health Department who encouraged voluntary notification, the Henry is committing to do so. With all of this in mind, this evening we notified the Health Department that we received information about a second COVID positive employee.The employee in this second case was last in the restaurant on Thursday, July 2. We are closing the restaurant early this evening and will be proceeding with sanitation and employee contacts. This time, we do not expect to be able to complete all of these procedures before our regular opening tomorrow. The Henry will be closed until we can go through our protocols, all of which mirror the San Diego Health Department's and CDC guidance.These are challenging times. We are learning how to do this better each day. Thank you for making us better. We hope to regain your trust and serve you again soon.”There are now hundreds of comments from members of the public. Please follow the rules! It's important! We care about you!”On Tuesday, ABC10 News asked San Diego County about whether restaurants are required to notify the public about employee cases. A spokesperson for the County wrote, "We leave it to the business, ANY business, to notify their customers. If we believe there is a risk to the public beyond that which would require further notification, we would notify the public."The County reports that medical providers are required to notify County health officials about employees who’ve tested positive. When ABC10News asked about whether restaurant employers are required to do the same, the County referred us to the state’s website which reports in part that employers should prepare to notify their local health department if there’s an outbreak or lab confirmed cases in the workplace.On Tuesday, ABC10 News asked The Henry for an interview. CORONADO, Calif., (KGTV) — Despite recent shark sighting, thousands of people headed to the beach for the pre-holiday weekend. But instead of sharks, dozens of people left the beach after being stung by stingrays.Beautiful Coronado is home to majestic creatures, including great white sharks. "We do think that the great white shark populations are increasing," Heidi Dewar, research biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center said. She believes the population increase is linked to the implementation of fishing regulations in the 1990s. "In 1994, California pushed all the net-based fisheries outside of state water, which is three nautical miles out. And what that did was that basically protected most of the nursery habitat of the juvenile sharks on the coast," Dewar said. "About the same time, the UN banned these high seas directed at fisheries, which were killing some adult white sharks."Last week, two juvenile white sharks were spotted about a half a mile offshore from the Coronado coast. There were no shark attacks like the one last year in Encinitas, where a 13-year-old boy was bitten in the shoulder while lobster spearfishing. Still, the city officials in Coronado notified beachgoers to be on the lookout. That did not stop 11-year-old Tobias Appel from diving in." We just came here to boogie board and have a bunch of fun," Tobias said. He and his family from Phoenix are vacationing in Coronado. They were having a great time until Tobias was stung by a stingray."Today is not my lucky day," Tobias said. This was his first time getting stung by a ray. We met him as he was sticking his foot into a hot water bath at the lifeguard station. "It is under. Right there," he said. In the hour Tobias was at the lifeguard station neutralizing the venom, we saw several others being carried in for emergency treatment. Lifeguards said warm water, low tide, and a packed beach is the perfect formula for a stingray warning. "One of the most amazing things about the ocean is that right there we have wilderness," Dewar said. "And with the wilderness, we have wild animals. So that's definitely a side of the ocean that people need to keep in mind when they go swimming or surfing."Biologists say remember, this summer when you are going to the beach, you are stepping into the animals' homes. So do not forget to be respectful and careful, while you are having fun. Meanwhile, Tobias has one more day in Coronado before he leaves for Phoenix. He hopes to enjoy what he can. CLEVELAND — A mother in Shaker Heights, Ohio said her daughter was ridiculed after asking her cheerleading coaches for a larger uniform. Mother Lakessa Taylor claims the fat-shaming didn't end there.Laylonie Dowdell, 16, rejoined the cheerleading squad at Shaker Heights High School this fall, but after a summer off, her uniform was a little snug.Her mother told her to request a new, larger one and the teen said what happened next left her speechless."They basically refused to order me a uniform because they said it held my boobs down," Dowdell said.She not only complained that her top was extremely tight, she told an assistant coach her pants were too small as well."She replied, 'I wonder why? You're eating too much,' and insisted I run laps back and forth to the stop sign and back until my ride got there," said Dowdell.Dowdell said she didn't want to show her two coaches she was upset, so her coping mechanism was to always smile and giggle."You're supposed to be my coach, she's supposed to mentor me, uplift me, but you're putting me down," said Dowdell.In a video from an away game in Medina, Ohio you can see Dowdell having to pull her uniform down.After struggling with it at another game in Mentor, Ohio she said she was approached by the assistant cheerleading coach while holding a hot dog and a pop.Dowdell said the coach asked her: "What are you putting in your mouth now? Why are you eating that?"Dowdell's mom said the hurtful comments left her daughter broken."We train our children to fend off bad things from other children, but we don't train them to defend themselves against adults," Taylor said.Taylor said as soon as her daughter told her what was going on, she notified the principal."I complained to the school on Monday. Today is Friday. I haven't heard anything from the school," said Taylor.While she hasn't heard anything from the school district, Taylor got a chance to talk with the assistant coach."She told me herself, 'Well, Laylonie was laughing and joking and so I didn't think there was anything wrong with what I said. Laylonie talks to me about her weight sometimes, so it was OK for me to say those things to her,' " said Taylor.Since coming forward and sharing her story, both coaches in question have resigned. WEWS was told the head coach planned to do so anyway at the end of football season."This is not the only complaint. We're talking about several. I've talked to four parents in the last 24 hours," said Taylor.In light of these allegations, the district is praising the head coach for her 23 years of service, calling her a devoted coach, a mentor and a "valuable member" of the athletic department."It's disturbing that the school is commending this lady for all that she has done," said Taylor.The district refused WEWS's requests for an on-camera interview, but a spokesperson said they take complaints of this nature very seriously.In the meantime, Dowdell said for the first time ever she's having issues with her body image."I know I'm pretty, I know I'm beautiful. But, when I look in the mirror I'm not as skinny as the next girl, or I can lose a few," said Dowdell.In a statement, the district said that despite these resignations, the investigation into these complaints will continue. 3290

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Imagine this scenario, or for some of you, it's been a past reality. You're in the shower and the water suddenly shuts off. You're covered in soap. You go into distress. Then rage overcomes you.In a Facebook post, Cody Vickers documented a similar scenario that happened in Columbus while he was at a construction job. His photo shows a butt-naked man bathing in water spewing from a broken water main near North High Street in Clintonville, the Columbus Dispatch reported.He said, “It’s not every day you see a naked man come out of his house screaming and cussing ... then comes off the porch and finishes taking his shower where the excavator hit the line," in a Facebook post that has since gone viral, getting 137,000 shares and more than 14,000 likes."I was in the f****** shower. I got soap all over me," said Vickers, repeating what the man said when he was met with a trench and a fountain of water.
