The criminal complaint unsealed today alleges that Saudi agents mined Twitter's internal systems for personal information about known Saudi critics and thousands of other Twitter users, US Attorney David Anderson said in a statement. "U.S. law protects U.S. companies from such an unlawful foreign intrusion. We will not allow U.S. companies or U.S. technology to become tools of foreign repression in violation of U.S. law."A third man, Ahmed Almutairi, also from Saudi Arabia, allegedly acted as a go-between to the two Twitter employees and the Saudi government, which according to the complaint rewarded the men with hundreds of thousands of dollars and, for one man, a luxury Hublo watch. While no Saudi government officials are named as running the spy operation in the complaint, 786

the Carter Center said Thursday.Carter, 95, was admitted Monday night to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for observation and treatment of a minor pelvic fracture sustained during a fall at his home in Plains, Georgia. In a statement, Deanna Congileo, director of communications for the Carter Center, said the former president "is looking forward to continuing to recuperate at his home in Plains, Georgia, and thanks everyone for their kind well wishes."The 39th president also fell and hit his head in his home two weeks ago when he was getting ready for church, requiring 571

The big questions at stake were whether Roundup can cause cancer and, if so, whether Monsanto failed to warn consumers about the product's cancer risk.In March 2015, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) said the key ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, is "probably carcinogenic to humans.""For the herbicide glyphosate, there was limited evidence of carcinogenicity in humans for non-Hodgkin lymphoma," the report states. But Monsanto has long maintained that Roundup does not cause cancer, and that the IARC report is greatly outnumbered by studies saying glyphosate is safe."More than 800 scientific studies, the US EPA, the National Institutes of Health and regulators around the world have concluded that glyphosate is safe for use and does not cause cancer," said Scott Partridge, Monsanto's vice president of strategy. He highlighted the Agricultural Health Study, which studied the effects of pesticides and glyphosate products on farmers and their spouses from 1993 to 2013."Many had already been using Roundup and other formulated products (since) it first came on the market," Partridge said.A summary of that study said "no association was apparent between glyphosate and any solid tumors or lymphoid malignancies overall, including NHL (non-Hodgkin's lymphoma).""We all have sympathy for Mr. Johnson," Partridge said. "It's natural he's looking for answers. Glyphosate is not the answer."But Litzenburg said glyphosate isn't the big problem -- Roundup is. He said the interaction between glyphosate and other ingredients in Roundup cause a "synergistic effect" that makes the product more carcinogenic.Monsanto spokeswoman Charla Lord disputed that notion, saying regulatory authorities help ensure Roundup as a whole is safe."The safety of each labeled use of a pesticide formulation must be evaluated and approved by regulatory authorities before it is authorized for sale," she said. The National Pesticide Information Center?-- a cooperative between Oregon State University and the EPA -- said studies on cancer rates in humans "have provided conflicting results on whether the use of glyphosate containing products is associated with cancer." 2231

The company that manages the center, Youth Opportunity Investments, identifies Jones as the operations manager in the incident report conducted by YOI after the escape. The report states Jones was with the teens while they were out of their cells cleaning, but left to respond to a fight in another area of the facility. According to the report, when he left, Jones failed to ensure the elevator door was secured. That's when the four teens were able to get on the elevator and convince a staff member to send the elevator to the basement, which is an unsecured area.It was recommended that he be suspended for three days following the incident. The report also says Jones was well aware that all youth should have been in their assigned rooms; however, he let them out to clean because the building "needed to be cleaned" based on his observations. The first meeting Tuesday was attended by almost two dozen school administrators, politicians, law enforcement officials and an architect with expertise on school design, among others. The roundtable was closed to the media. But afterward, Abbott read a long list of ideas discussed, such as:-- Expanding the school marshal program, which allows trained school personnel to carry concealed weapons on campus-- Having greater parental accountability-- Creating more threat assessment teams-- Hiring more school counselors-- Making it easier for students to report potential problems, possibly by rewarding them-- Installing more metal detectors-- Conducting mental health evaluations starting as early as elementary schoolCecilia Reynolds-Perez, principal of W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, said Tuesday she was concerned about a shortage of school counselors."We don't have enough," she told CNN. "We have like one counselor to every 600 students, and there's no way for a counselor to identify warning signs about some students, the potential ones, who are going to cause these (violent) actions."Tuesday's participants also talked about allowing more school personnel to carry firearms on campus.A recent CNN story reported that 170 Texas school districts (out of about 1,000) already allow teachers and administrators to carry concealed weapons on school grounds.Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said there are pros and cons to the idea."You can't put somebody that is not proficient in that firearm in a position to where they'll have to use deadly force," he said. "Training has to be paramount."Abbott said he hoped some of the ideas could be implemented by the start of the next school year, such as an improved threat-assessment system that would allow schools across Texas to better share information. 1820
