(KGTV) — Police are searching for an 81-year-old man who was last seen in the Otay Ranch Mall area.Chula Vista Police says Donald Mooring was last seen around 3 p.m. near the Otay Ranch Mall on Thursday. Police add that Mooring may be suffering from the effects of dementia.Mooring is described as a black man, 5-foot 9-inches tall, and weighing about 230 pounds. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The forward rate of spread has been stopped after a fire sparked near a canyon in Chula Vista Thursday evening. The fire started around 5 p.m. in a canyon on the 400 block of Agua Vista Drive. It is in a residential area near the San Miguel Mountain Trailhead.Video from the scene showed white smoke billowing from the canyon. (KGTV) - After hours of listening to public comment, the Chula Vista Planning Commission decided to table and continue an item that would bring a new recreational storage facility to the city's Eastlake area. The proposed facility would store 80 to 100 vehicles, like boats or RVs, on land between Eastlake High School and Antigua, a gated town-home community.Homeowners begged the planning commission to not accept the plans for the facility saying it would be an eyesore for their properties and lower their property values. The property manager of Titan Storage also made his case before the commissioners, citing the need for the facility in a part of town that is growing quickly. RV owners asked the commission to consider accepting the plan because they say surrounding RV lots are full, forcing them to store their vehicles across town. Ultimately, three commissioners said they could not support the plan as presented and voted instead to continue the item to a future date, giving the storage company time to present a revised plan. So far, no date is scheduled for the next public hearing on this issue. 1143

(KGTV) -- Chula Vista native Sally Chand always knew what she wanted to do in life: follow in her family's tradition and join the military.Chand's father, her uncles and all of her brothers were all Marines. Her grandfather served in the Army. Chand eventually joined the Marines as well. Her son followed in her footsteps. After graduating from Castle Park High School, Chand served in the Marines for 22 years. Chand made history as the first female and Hispanic war interrogator translator in Chinese Mandarin. Later in life, Chand married a Marine who served for 27 years, Sergeant Major Michael Chand. He was killed while working as a civilian contractor in Iraq. (KGTV) -- The Sweetwater Union High School District said Tuesday that it decided to end the employment agreement of Dr. Karen Janney, the district’s superintendent.Janney had been under pressure to step down following a multi-million dollar budget shortfall that prompted an investigation into possible misappropriation of funds.In June of 2020, the board voted 4-1 to place Janney on paid administrative leave.Tuesday afternoon, a district spokesperson wrote to ABC10 News that a new vote happened in a board meeting on Monday night. Video posted by the district only refers to the termination of an employee. Tuesday, the district spokesperson sent ABC10 News the following statement: "The Sweetwater Union High School District Board of Trustees provided Dr. Janney a 90-day notice to end her employment agreement, pursuant to Article 17b of that agreement. On behalf of the entire Sweetwater community, we want to thank Dr. Janney for her many years of service and dedication to the district, its board, and our students."Janney took over as superintendent of the district in 2015. Three years later, the district reported a million budget deficit.Also in June, a report from California’s Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team reported that there was enough evidence that fraud or misappropriation of funds may have occurred within the district.
