Twitter has again hidden a tweet from President Donald Trump for violating the platform's policies.Hours after President Donald Trump once again encouraged voters in North Carolina to vote twice in the 2020 presidential election, Twitter placed a warning on his tweet, saying that the tweet violated the site's policies on "civic and election integrity.""NORTH CAROLINA: To make sure your Ballot COUNTS, sign & send it in EARLY," Trump tweeted on Saturday morning. "When Polls open, go to your Polling Place to see if it was COUNTED. IF NOT, VOTE! Your signed Ballot will not count because your vote has been posted. Don't let them illegally take your vote away from you!"Voting twice in an election is illegal. Voters can be prosecuted for election fraud submitting both an in-person ballot and a mail-in ballot in North Carolina.Voters in North Carolina (and many other states) can track their mail-in ballots' status online.Josh Stein, North Carolina's Attorney General, warned citizens in his state against voting twice in the 2020 election."Do NOT do what the President directs," Stein said. "To make sure your ballot COUNTS, sign and send it in EARLY. Then track it ONLINE with BALLOTTRAX. Do NOT vote twice (it's a felony), or waste your time, or unnecessarily risk exposure to more people." 1310

U.K. police have appealed for witnesses after a passenger on a European airline made racist remarks about another passenger that were caught on video. The man had threatened to "push" an elderly black woman onto another seat.A crew member of the Ryanair flight from Barcelona, Spain, to London intervened, but the flight took off on Friday with at least one passenger wanting the unidentified man who made the remarks to be booted off the flight. In the footage, a man in a window seat was heard saying he refused to sit next to an elderly woman seated in an aisle seat. The man hurled insults at the woman and called her an "ugly black bastard" before the flight took off, according to a cell phone video recorded by London-based musician David Lawrence.Lawrence posted the footage on social media on Friday."This incident, which we were made aware of yesterday morning, is believed to have taken place on a plane at Barcelona Airport," said the police force in charge of the region round London Stansted airport, where the flight landed."Essex Police takes prejudice-based crime seriously and we want all incidents to be reported. We are working closely with Ryanair and the Spanish authorities on the investigation. We would encourage anyone with information to contact us." 1283

U.S. energy consumption plummeted to its lowest level in more than 30 years this spring as the nation’s economy largely shut down because of the coronavirus, federal officials reported Wednesday. The drop was driven by less demand for coal that is burned for electricity and oil that’s refined into gasoline and jet fuel, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said. The declines were in line with lower energy usage around the globe as the pandemic seized up economies. Those trends are turning around as commercial activity resumes but the impact has already been profound — including energy companies filing for bankruptcy protection and a forecasted dip in annual U.S. and global greenhouse gas emissions.Overall U.S. energy consumption dropped 14 % during April compared to a year earlier, the energy administration said. That’s the lowest monthly level since 1989 and the largest decrease ever recorded in data that’s been collected since 1973.The largest drop previously seen was in December 2001, after the Sept. 11 attacks shocked the economy and a mild winter depressed electricity demand.Natural gas bucked the trend with a 15 percent increase in use during the April lockdown. More people at home meant more demand for natural gas as a heating fuel, while relatively few homes are heated with coal or oil, said Brett Marohl, who helped produce the energy administration findings.Petroleum consumption fell to 14.7 million barrels a day in April, down almost a third compared to the same period in 2019. Demand already has rebounded some after stay-at-home orders expired and large sectors of the economy started moving again.Led by people resuming some of their old driving habits, particularly in cities, petroleum consumption in June was back up to 17.6 million barrels a day, according to the American Petroleum Institute. But new drilling activity continued to be weak, declining in June for the seventh month in a row to 11 million barrels daily as stockpiles of oil and petroleum products remained near record levels. The spring drop in oil demand coincided with a market collapse triggered by a price dispute between Russia and Saudi Arabia.“While we are not out of the woods yet, we do appear to be headed in the right direction,” said Dean Foreman, the industry group’s chief economist.Coal companies are expected to have an even tougher time recovering from the pandemic, which hit as the coal sector remained on a fairly steady downward spiral since 2007 despite President Donald Trump’s attempts to prop it up.Coal consumption fell 27 percent in April compared to the same period in 2019, to 27 million tons. Most coal produced in the U.S. is used to generate electricity but many utilities have switched to cheaper natural gas and renewable sources like wind and solar. The energy administration projects overall consumption will increase for the rest of 2020 but remain below 2019 levels.___Follow Matthew Brown on twitter: @matthewbrownap 2972

Twitter has flagged President Donald Trump’s Monday evening tweet for being “misleading” after the president said a recent Supreme Court decision regarding tomorrow’s election will “induce violence.”Trump’s tweet said, “The Supreme Court decision on voting in Pennsylvania is a VERY dangerous one. It will allow rampant and unchecked cheating and will undermine our entire systems of laws. It will also induce violence in the streets. Something must be done!”Trump told reporters between campaign rallies on Monday that he believes the decision will lead to cheating. The Supreme Court ruled that mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania can arrive up to three days after the election given they are postmarked by the election.“It’s a mistake. It allows cheating,” he told White House pool reporters “Totally opens up cheating in Pennsylvania."Trump's opponent Joe Biden had little to say about the tweet. “I’m not going to respond to anything he has to say. I’m hoping for a straightforward, peaceful election with a lot of people showing up," Biden said late Monday. While polling suggests Trump will do well among those who will vote in-person on Tuesday, polls show Biden with a huge advantage among mail-in voters.Mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania, a state expected to be crucial in deciding who wins Tuesday’s election, could take days to count. Election officials are not allowed to begin processing ballots already received until Tuesday morning."The outcome of Tuesday's election could well depend on Pennsylvania. It is vitally important that the more than 3 million ballots cast by mail here be counted as soon as possible," Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar said. "The country will be looking to Pennsylvania for accurate and timely results."Election results are generally not official until days or weeks after the election. With mail-in vote results expected to come in after the in-person votes in Pennsylvania, Trump will likely see a sizable lead dwindle in the hours and days after polls close in the state. While Trump has claimed that voting fraud could cast doubt on the legitimacy on the election, there have been relatively few instances of recorded voting fraud. The White House released a Heritage Foundation report that found 1,071 instances of voting fraud, but those instances date back into the 20th century compared to hundreds of millions of votes tallied over the years. 2408
