SAN DIEGO COUNTY (KGTV)-- County supervisors announced that we are just days away until San Diegans can finally relax on the beach.But some are jumping the gun.It was the announcement San Diegans were waiting for."On Tuesday, June 2, passive activities will be allowed on beaches, so long as groups stay within their household units, social distance from other non-family members, and facial coverings," San Diego County Supervisor, Greg Cox announced on Thursday.Supervisors said sitting on the sand, towels, and chairs will be allowed. But sports such as football and volleyball will continue to be prohibited. Parking lots and piers will also remain closed. However, many people seemed to forget about the start date: Tuesday, June 2.On the evening of the County announcement, a 10News viewer witnessed a graduation party in Oceanside. The photos showed a mass gathering with many people sitting on the sand, with almost no one practicing social distancing or wearing masks. "I'm sure everybody is anxious to get out with their family, sit on the beach and enjoy the nice weather," Solana Beach visitor, Labib Samarrai said. But on Saturday, most people seemed to be following the rules at Solana Beach."I think everybody is now maybe over-educated, but it's all good," Samarrai said. Lifeguards at Solana Beach and Pacific Beach say they are still focused on educating the public, instead of actively ticketing visitors who disregard the County Public Health order. "They're only telling people that are not where they want them," Pacific Beach surfer Jake Curran said. For Curran, the passive activity phase does not make much of a difference in his usual routine. But for his girlfriend, June 2 can't come soon enough. "She has been visiting for the past month, trying to find activities for her and I to do while she is in town," Curran said. "But it will be nice on Tuesday for her to come out, come lay out, take some pictures, and watch the sunset and whatnot."While the County allowed passive activities to begin on June 2, they say it is ultimately up to each jurisdiction if they want to adopt the new phase on that day. 2143

SAN DIEGO, California — Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays.The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Road in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.Voters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told KGTV television station.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling KGTV they wanted their votes to count. Provisional voting requires extra processing time to verify residences and identities.The San Diego Superior Court announced Monday it would have a judicial officer on hand to deal with any possible election-related issues, including registration, denial of registration of voters, certification or denial of certification of candidates or the certification or denial of certification of ballot measures.Voters were encouraged to contact the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800 with any concerns. 1337

SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) - In an effort to calm people's fears about new streetlights equipped with cameras and sensors, the City of San Diego will hold a public forum Wednesday night to answer questions and explain what the new technology does, and does not do.The meeting is from 5:30 to 7 pm, at the Malcom X Library on 5148 Market Street.Over the last two years, the city has installed more than 3,000 new streetlights that have "Smart City" technology built into them. The footage from the cameras isn't accessible to the public, and the cameras are not for surveillance. According to the city, the footage has already been used to help SDPD solve a handful of crimes.Hooven also says the cameras will use GPS technology to ensure they only get footage of public spaces, and not areas that are expected to be private. The system uses a process called "curtilage" to blur any areas that shouldn't be shown.Hooven says the city is ready to answer any other questions people have about the new lights at Wednesday's meeting."Technology is coming and we're trying to embrace it to provide a lot of benefits to the city and save us money," she says. San Diego (KGTV)- It’s been one year since the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, killing three members of the same family. The husband and father of two of the women is still calling for changes along the beach.Dr. Pat Davis says this past year has been tough after losing wife Julie Davis, daughter Annie Clave and sister-in-law Elizabeth Charles.The family was out for a day at the beach last August when suddenly the bluff gave out.“It was important for me that this kind of accident never is able to happen to any other family,” says Davis.Davis says since the tragic accident, there has been little change at Grandview beach. “There’s very few new signs warning people about these cliffs.”Davis is calling on local and state leaders to stabilize the bluffs. He’s hoping a new bill will help. S.B. 1090 offers solutions like sand replenishment. It currently sits in the Senate.“We got over 4,000 signatures in one month of people supporting the bill.”In the meantime, Davis is thanking the community for its continued support. A park bench sits at the top of Grandview Beach, honoring his family members.“Not that there’s an easy side of learning to live with the loss and one of your children but, certainly family support and community support has been a great help in allowing my family to move forward.”Davis says community members also came together to place another memorial bench in their neighborhood. 1423

SAN DIEGO, California —An 81-year-old woman was arrested at the Tecate port of entry Wednesday, carrying 92 pounds of heroin valued at more than 0,000. “The cartels will try and manipulate anyone to smuggle their narcotics through the ports of entry,” said Pete Flores, the San Diego Customs and Border Protection Director of Field Operations. “CBP officers are aware of the many tactics used by the cartels and remain ever vigilant to stop anyone attempting to smuggle narcotics.”CBP officers working at the Tecate border crossing encountered a 81-year-old woman, United States citizen when she entered the U.S. driving a 2011 Chrysler 200 at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A CBP K-9 team was screening vehicles as they waited in line for inspection when the detector dog alerted to the driver side rocker panel.CBP officers referred the vehicle for a more in-depth inspection and discovered and extracted a total of 34 wrapped packages of heroin from the vehicle’s rocker panels. The estimated street value of the heroin is over 0,000.The woman was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing and CBP officers seized the vehicle. 1209
