BERLIN (AP) — Holocaust survivors are lending their voices to a campaign targeting Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg, urging him to take action to remove denial of the Nazi genocide from the social media site. Coordinated by the New York-based Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, the #NoDenyingIt campaign launched Wednesday uses Facebook itself to make the survivors’ entreaties to Zuckerberg heard with one video per day being posted urging him to remove Holocaust denying groups, pages and posts as hate speech. BOULDER CITY, Nev. – What was supposed to be a routine bike ride turned into deadly crash in Nevada.Thursday morning, a box truck plowed into a group of bicyclists on U.S. 95, killing five of them.At least three other bicyclists were injured. One was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition from the scene south of Boulder City. Another one was transported by ambulance and is in serious condition. The third bicyclist suffered minor injuries.Troopers with Nevada Highway Patrol say the driver of the box truck was not hurt and is cooperating with police. They don’t believe at this time that the driver was impaired.The bicyclists did have a safety car with them at the time of the incident. However, one group of cyclists was in front of the car and the other was behind. It is not known which group was struck.“I don’t even know. It’s just the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life," said former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer Michael Anderson.He was collecting his thoughts after a horrific day. Five of his fellow bicyclists were killed after that box truck struck their group.“Try to contact their families... I don’t even know how to say it to them,” he said.Anderson says the wind caused part of the group to get behind a safety vehicle to protect themselves when the box truck hit them. BLOOMINGTON — The mother of an Indiana University football player who is battling COVID-19 wants everyone to realize the importance of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.Brady Feeney is a freshman offensive lineman for the Hooisers from St. Louis. His mother, Debbie Rucker, took to Facebook Monday with a plea: Take COVID-19 seriously, wear a mask and exercise social distancing.Feeney is battling the virus as questions remain on whether the college football season will be played this fall. The Big Ten announced it plans on playing a conference-only schedule this fall. With her son's permission, Rucker shared his story:My son was negative when he got tested at the beginning of volunteer workouts. Within three weeks he and multiple others tested positive. His university has done everything right by shutting down workouts and retesting the whole team.Unfortunately this virus hit my son very hard compared to most of his teammates. Here was a kid in perfect health, great physical condition and due to the virus ended up going to the ER because of breathing issues.After 14 days of hell battling the horrible virus, his school did additional testing on all those that were positive. My son even received extra tests because he was one of the worst cases. Now we are dealing with possible heart issues!He is still experiencing additional symptoms and his blood work is indicating additional problems. Bottom line, even if your son’s schools do everything right to protect them, they CAN’T PROTECT THEM!!I pray my son recovers from this horrible virus and can lead a healthy normal life!! BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -- The Benham family of northwest Georgia has made history by breaking down barriers, which helped open up new opportunities for the African-American community.This always bring back good memories for me up here. We used to call it the beach,” Robert Benham said of George Washington Carver Park in Bartow County, Georgia. “It was a place where people of color could feel free.”Free, however, during a time of segregation. Robert Benham’s father was the superintendent at George Washington Carver Park, Georgia’s first state park for African Americans.“It’s where my mom and dad were in business and they were people who really believed in the American dream,” Benham said.Benham said he learned valuable life lessons while water skiing the section of Lake Allatoona in Acworth, Georgia.“Being the smallest person, I was always atop of the pyramid,” he said. “The lesson I learned then was that sometimes you can do things perfectly and still fail at it.”Benham says those experiences helped him become the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of Georgia.There was one incident, however, that impacted his life more than others: when he was denied using the front door at the park’s main office.“My dad stepped up and said, ‘this is my son, he can go in anybody’s front door and if you ever step in his way that will be the last step you make,’” Benham said.That decision would cost Benham’s father his job, but would prove to be a turning point in both of their lives.“He said, ‘there’s some things you have to do be a man,’” Benham said of his father. “’And if you can’t stand up for your children, what can you stand up for?’”While Benham describes the waters at George Washington Carver Park as almost spiritual. He says they also had a huge impact physically. During his the Benham family’s time there, this section of the lake was the only lake in northwest Georgia where African Americans were allowed to swim.“For some people this was the first time they had an opportunity to swim because they couldn’t swim in the various facilities in town,” Benham said.In an area where Confederate flags still fly today, George Washington Carver Park is now open to everyone while Benham is now retired as a judge.Looking back on the past, he believes the recreation area has helped with the future of race relations.“If they work on the things that they have in common than the things that separate them will be less significant,” Benham said. 2483
