(KGTV) - Scientists at Stemson Therapeutics say they've found a way to create new hair cells that could become a cure for baldness."We're hoping this will be the breakthrough," says Chief Scientific Officer Alexey Terskikh.For a few years, they've been working on a two-part process that turns stem cells into hair follicles. It then implants the follicle cells into the scalp to grow new hair."We have the capability to generate brand new hair follicles," says Stemson CEO Geoff Hamilton.Using iPSC's, stem cells derived from a person's blood or existing cells, Terskikh's team can direct them to become folliculogenic cells, the building blocks of hair.They then put the cells into a microscopic scaffold-like mold made on a 3D printer. (KGTV) - "Dozens" of cats were found Thursday in an East County apartment in unlivable conditions.San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) responded to a welfare check for elderly neglect just before 2 p.m. in the 9700 block of Channel Road. Deputies arrived and located "dozens of cats" in a 1000-square-foot apartment, according to a release.Deputies said the apartment was not in a liveable condition.Officials at the scene originally told 10News more than 100 cats were found, but later clarified it was difficult to count because the cats kept running away. Officials said that number is closer to 70 cats.An elderly female was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, but she is expected to be fine. LAS VEGAS — A new Harvard study with the Movement Advancement Project shows that COVID-19 has negatively impacted LGBTQ+ households more than non-LGBTQ+ households, especially if they are Black or Latinx."There tend to be worse outcomes in general," explained Dr. Ryan Cox, behavior health director at the LGBTQ Specialty Clinic at Truman Medical Center."Part of that is a lack of primary care," he said. "So people often in this community, particularly the transgender community, don't already have established relationships with medical providers."Healthcare workers say they are seeing these study results reflected in the community."They would rather skip their medical appointments rather than come out and expose themselves to COVID," said Nurse Care Manager Kim Tilson, also with Truman Medical Center."It is definitely having an impact," she continued. "So if you can't come in for doctor's appointments, if we can't follow up, it's hard to make sure we can refill your medications and still stay safe.The study says 64% of LGBTQ+ households have lost a job due to the pandemic, and if you're Black that number is 95% compared to less than half of non-LGBTQ+ households.A quarter of LGBTQ+ households couldn't get needed prescriptions.
