President-elect Joe Biden has asked Dr. Anthony Fauci to remain in his role at the National Institutes of Health, and to become a chief medical adviser to the Biden administration. "I asked him to stay on the exact same role he's had for the past several presidents, and I asked him to be a chief medical adviser for me as well, and be part of the Covid team," Biden said Thursday during a joint interview with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on CNN. Earlier in the day, Dr. Fauci said he planned on staying in his role as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a position he's held since 1984 under several presidents. He has become a recognizable face and scientific voice of reason and warning in 2020 as a member of the White House coronavirus task force and frequent media guest to talk about the current state of the pandemic, next steps and hope for the future. It was during an interview with CBS News’ Major Garrett that Fauci made the comment he fully expects to stay on at the NIH. He also said he was looking forward to Thursday afternoon's first virtual meeting with Biden and his coronavirus team.Fauci has had a rocky relationship with President Donald Trump, as the president flouted recommendations from Fauci and other health leaders. Biden said his incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, worked with Dr. Fauci during the Ebola crisis in 2014 and had been talking to him "all the time."During media interviews Thursday, Fauci also addressed comments some have made about the FDA not approving the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine for emergency use yet, even though the UK’s equivalent has.“We have the gold standard of a regulatory approach with the FDA,” Fauci said on Fox News Thursday. “The U.K. did not do it as carefully, they got a couple of days ahead. I don’t think that makes much difference. We’ll be there very soon.”Biden is expected to announce his picks for health positions next week, including the leads at the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 2069

RAMONA (KGTV) - Seven acres burned in a brush fire near downtown Ramona Saturday, according to CalFire. At 6 p.m. Cal Fire PIO Issac Sanchez said the fire was 20% contained. The fire burned near Montecito Road and North Ramona Street.Hundreds of neighbors were evacuated from the Ramona Mountain Valley Apartments, where the fire burned right up to their fence. Juliette Farey, a mother and resident at the complex said she was coming back from her son's birthday party and when she saw the smoke, she knew her home was at risk."We were scared for our lives," she said.Farey said the unruly gold bushes on the other side of the fence were out of control, and wished they would be better maintained to keep a fire from happening in the future.Sanchez said the fire started with a pile of debris in the riverbed then spread to nearby grass. Sixty-five fire fighters responded, working to protect neighbors, two planes and a helicopter also jumped into action to help. Farey believes homeless who live in the riverbed started the fire, saying the high rent is to blame. "They probably lit a fire in the river bottom to stay warm," she said.Other residents were terrified, saying they've never experienced a scare like this."There was just this wall of smoke. I grabbed our animals and my daughters," Angelina Rios said police banged on their door urging them to get out and that's when they saw the wall of smoke steps away. Her daughter Destiny Minjares described the fear gripping her and her neighbors, that turned to excitement as a helicopter soared just over their heads dropping water.Destiny said they got splashed and everyone cheered after the successful maneuver, a feeling that quickly faded as they saw the fire was still raging nearby.Firefighters got a handle on the fire around 6 p.m. The evacuations have been lifted. All road closures have been lifted as well. Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for several hours. This is a developing story. 10News will update as details become available.  2101

Raise your hand if you know someone who has moved to Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth or Houston recently. A lot of hands went up, because those are the three fastest-growing metropolitan areas — and they have relatively affordable home prices, too. Each quarter, NerdWallet calculates home affordability for 172 metro areas. NerdWallet narrowed its focus this quarter to the 10 metros that had the most population growth from mid-2016 to mid-2017, the latest data available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Among these 10, Atlanta had the most affordable home prices this spring and Seattle had the least affordable. The top three metros on this list have two things in common, says Danielle Hale, chief economist for Realtor.com: They have space to grow, with few physical barriers such as mountains and oceans, and they have local governments that “are more willing to permit and allow development, too.”Affordability was calculated by comparing incomes and median home prices. A place with high incomes and low home prices is more affordable than an area with low incomes and high home prices. Here are the 10 fastest-growing metro areas, ranked from most to least affordable for buying a home in the second quarter of 2018. The rankings were compiled using data from the National Association of Realtors, the U.S. Census Bureau and NerdWallet surveys.? MORE: How much home can you afford in your area? 1416

President Donald Trump was removed from his evening coronavirus news conference on Monday after a shooting took place outside of the White House complex, Trump confirmed to reporters. Minutes into his briefing, Trump was told to leave his briefing by a Secret Service agent. Trump said he was not taken to the bunker, and just stepped outside of the briefing room.Trump said that a suspect was shot by law enforcement outside of the White House. Trump complimented authorities for handling the incident. The Secret Service confirmed an officer-involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington. The intersection is roughly one block from the White House, and not far from the West Wing section of the White House, where the White House briefing room is located. The Secret Service said that a male subject and a Secret Service officer were both transported to a local hospital. "At no time during this incident was the White House complex breached or were any protectees in danger," the Secret Service said. The Secret Service issued a statement late Monday indicating that a 51-year-old man told Secret Service officers he had a weapon. 1163

Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, announced he is launching an investigation surrounding Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s speech at the Republican National Convention. Pompeo’s speech is set to be broadcast during Tuesday’s portion of the RNC.Castro wants to probe whether the speech violates both the Hatch Act and State Department rules. The Hatch Act is intended to limit political activities by executive branch employees other than the president and vice president. While violating the Hatch Act is not criminal, there are potential civil fines for violations. The act also calls for violators of the act to be reprimanded or terminated from their positions if found in violation. But in the past, the Trump administration has not acted on violations of the Hatch Act. Most notably, the Office of the Special Counsel recommended that Trump aide Kellyanne Conway be removed from her White House post after allegedly violating the act multiple times. Pompeo is delivering his remarks during an official trip to Israel.“The Trump administration and Secretary Pompeo have shown a gross disregard not only of basic ethics, but also a blatant willingness to violate federal law for political gain. Congress has a responsibility to stand up for the rule of law and hold them accountable for this corrupt behavior,” said Castro. “It’s absolutely unacceptable that a sitting U.S. Secretary of State, America’s top diplomat, would use official taxpayer-funded business to participate in a political party convention, particularly after the State Department published guidance that explicitly prohibits such activity.”Sources told CNN that White House, State Department, RNC and Pompeo’s personal lawyers all signed off on the speech. CNN also reported that the State Department claimed that no taxpayer funds were used by Pompeo to deliver the speech. While there are concerns that having Trump administration officials participate in political activities is toeing what’s legal under federal law, it is certainly unprecedented. There has not been an active secretary of state in recent times who has held a speaking role at a political convention.ABC News reported that then Secretary of State Colin Powell would not participate in the 2004 Republican National Convention due to ethics concerns.“As secretary of state, I am obliged not to participate in any way, shape, fashion, or form in parochial, political debates. I have to take no sides in the matter," Powell said, according to ABC News. 2492
