TEMECULA, Calif. (KGTV) - A three-alarm fire injured two people and prompted the evacuation of Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula Monday. The fire broke out in an elevator shaft in the main resort complex just after 11 a.m., Riverside County Fire Department officials said. Pechanga spokeswoman Ciara Green told City News Service that the flames were confined to an elevator portal "in the original tower," which underwent a major expansion two years ago. One person suffered from burns and another suffered smoke inhalation. The burn victim was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital in stable condition, according to reports from the scene. "Out of an abundance of caution, team members and guests in the hotel tower were evacuated," Green said. "The incident was not near the casino." Ten-year-old D'Mya Newton was ecstatic when she found out she'd be able to play basketball this summer."She was in the garage all day just putting up shots," said Brittney English, D'Mya's mom.However, after playing several games in mid-June in a suburb of Kansas City, she began to feel sick."Once we took her to the hospital, they gave her an IV of saline solution and Motrin," English said.Her mom said Newton has some health issues, and wanted to take her to the hospital as her fever rose.Days later, doctors told English her daughter tested positive for COVID-19.41 Action News spoke with English over Zoom as the family is in quarantine. These symptoms are followed by a blotchy rash that spreads from the head to the feet.Measles is a potentially severe disease, especially young children and persons with compromised immune systems. The Associated Press is reporting that six officers involved in the arrest of Freddy Gray — a young black man who died in the custody of Baltimore Police in 2015 — will not face federal charges.The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday that the officers would not face charges from the federal government.
