SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A La Jolla High School student was arrested Friday for threatening a school shooting this week.San Diego Police were made aware of a social media threat Thursday, however, police said the 15-year-old student made the threat Wednesday "to conduct a shooting at the school."The student was contacted Friday, SDPD said. Police searched the student's home but did not find any firearms. Police did not say if they believed the threat to be credible, but that it warranted investigation.Police said the student has been placed in Juvenile Hall."This is absolutely an example of how ‘See something, Say something’ is supposed to work," said SDPD Chief Michael Marquez. "Students warned administrators a threat had been made, and school leaders notified all parents of this report. Multiple parents then spoke with their students and uncovered potential evidence of a threat. In the end, it was this evidence which allowed police to take swift action this morning."Police said the student was already serving a suspension for a separate incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new cancer screening method is promising to eliminate the need for painful biopsies and greatly reduce the cost of the procedure.It's part of a line of research known as liquid biopsy and the latest advancement is being ramped up for mass production by an entrepreneurial couple in Torrey Pines at the research firm, BioFluidica.  Among billions of blood cells, the company has developed a chip capable of finding a single abnormal cell afflicted with cancer or other diseases."It is probably the most sophisticated injection molding piece in this world," said molecular biologist Rolf Muller, as he holds up a thin, plastic chip about two inches square.First developed by researchers in North Carolina, the chip is injected with a small blood sample which can contain billions of individual cells. The blood passes through 150 tiny tunnels within the chip which are coated with antibodies. Those antibodies do their natural work of isolating the abnormal cells.Researchers can then identify them for any possible threat and treatment.The Mullers say the screenings have the potential to dramatically increase survival rates for cancer patients. And to eliminate the need for the often painful biopsies currently in use.They also envision the test becoming a normal part of standard blood screenings. The chip is currently in clinical trials. Among the 50 states, California ranked last for housing affordability, 47th for median family salary (adjusted for cost of living) and 42nd for child care cost. The Golden State may not be so golden for a decent percentage of families as it also ranked 29th for percentage of families in poverty. But it’s not all bad news, California also ranked 12th for families with young kids and 11th for its separation and divorce rate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was Tased in the face and stabbed several times during a fight in the Rolando Park neighborhood, according to police. The incident happened near Newsome Drive and Odom Street around 1:19 a.m. Sunday. According to police, two brothers were visiting their girlfriends in the neighborhood when the two men got into a fight with a nearby group. RELATED: Man shot in Encanto, police searching for suspectDuring the fight, one of the brothers was Tased in the face by a woman and stabbed in the back three times by an unknown suspect. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Detectives are looking into the incident. 675

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
