SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Community members rallied Thursday to send a message to developers looking to build in Barrio Logan. This comes after a developer tried to bring an 80-room hotel to the area, but neighbors opposed it.Neighbors are worried the developers coming in would change the culture of the community. "I don't feel good at all. I think in the past, Barrio Logan has been assaulted and insulted," said resident David Heaney. "I'm afraid that they're going to go against the plan again, and there will be some kind of shenanigans where there the City Council will say it's done."Heaney has been living in his Barrio Logan home since 1998. It sits directly across from the proposed development site on Newton Avenue. Last summer, a developer wanted to put a hotel at the location, but due to opposition from the community, it will now be a mixed-use space. Community members say there is simply no room for a project like a hotel or other large businesses because of the lack of parking in the area. Neighbors must have parking permits to park in the area. 10News reached out to developer Douglas W. Hamm, who initially proposed putting a hotel in the space. He sent a statement that read, in part: "I conveyed that I have zero interest in trying to build a project in their neighborhood that the community is not supportive of, much less opposes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As the temperature rises and more businesses, like movie theaters, are reopening San Diegans and people from neighboring counties are flocking to get a dose of normalcy."We sold out today which is great news for everyone, we sold out today very quickly." General Manager of Theater Box Donnie Eversole said.He said it was wonderful 'being home' back in the theater, "we haven't been in the theater for 90 to 120 days so it's like a new adventure."He said it helps that the week they opened, two blockbusters, Christopher Nolan's Tenet and Bill and Ted Face the Music, are screening.While they're capped at 25% Eversole said you can make sure you claim your seat by reserving online. They are working to add more showtimes while abiding by the new guidelines.Last time San Diego had sweeping reopenings, there was a huge spike in coronavirus cases. Eversole said they are doing everything they cna to prevent another spike, "every cdc guideline is followed to the letter, we do not bend, we do not break. A spokesperson for Sweetwater Union High School District confirms the investigations, saying the teachers are not allowed on campus at the current time.10News uncovered the investigations when a viewer reported that his daughter had been interviewed in the case. He says an assistant principal questioned her about one teacher's behavior, including conduct that could be considered sexually inappropriate.The father, who asked 10News not to use his name, says he's upset that he was not notified by the school before his daughter was brought in for questioning. "I would have preferred my wife to be there, or I could have had the chance to say no, I don't want her interviewed because these are very serious, morbid conversations to have with 12-year-old girls," the father said.He says the only communication he has had from the school is a robocall voicemail the day after the questioning to notify him that it had occurred and suggesting he ask his student about the topics discussed.A district spokesperson says they are limited in what information can be released by privacy and personnel issues. 1233

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Chelsea Manning, a former Army intelligence analyst who provided classified information to Wikileaks, spoke Monday at San Diego State University.Manning was convicted in 2013 of stealing 750,000 pages of documents and videos relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.A judge convicted Manning - then known as Bradley Manning - on 20 counts, including violations of the Espionage Act.After the 2013 sentencing, the ex-intelligence agent changed her name to Chelsea Manning and became a transgender woman.During one of his final acts in office, President Barack Obama commuted Manning's 35-year sentence, giving her an early release date.RELATED: Chelsea Manning released after 7 years in prisonManning has since joined the lecture circuit. Was so excited to hear SeaWorld was back open. My grandson was so excited ... and then my excitement, down to frustration," said Becker.She was frustrated because of the cost. The park's attractions will be limited to outdoor animal exhibits and shows. A ticket will include food, drink, and merchandise. Passholders like Becker get a complimentary ticket but must pay for the lanyard for the food and beverages.
