Several countries have started shifting to a shorter quarantine recommendation.Places like France are now telling COVID-19 patients to quarantine for seven days instead of 14. Other countries like Spain, Belgium and Germany are having people quarantine for 10 days. The idea here is that a shorter quarantine is better than no quarantine at all. Some people may find it difficult to self-isolate and because of the long period, they may not attempt to do it.“If you have a job that requires you to be there, you’ll miss two weeks’ worth of work,” said Marcus Plescia, Chief Medical Officer at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. “Even if you have a job with really good benefits, where you can take sick leave and they can accommodate that, even in that situation, it’s going to be difficult for most people.”Another idea that supports this is that many people will not need the full two weeks to develop COVID-19 symptoms. The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials says the vast majority of people are showing symptoms within four to six days. They do say that the downside to shorter quarantine is that there is the possibility they will miss some people who start showing symptoms later on.Utah is one state that has approved a shorter quarantine period under certain guidelines. The governor there has allowed students to return to school after seven days of quarantine, if they have not shown symptoms. That’s specifically for students who were wearing a mask and were at school when they were exposed. Some more states are also considering a shorter quarantine time for children in grades K-12.“They tend to be asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, so there’s not a danger for the most part, there’s not a danger to the children themselves,” said Plescia. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently looking at shorter quarantine periods for college-age students.Depending on what they find, the CDC may be able to issue new guidance on self-isolation periods to get states on the same page. 2065

Several months into the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are still working and learning from home. For some, it comes easy, but distractions can get in the way for both adults and kids. This is where smart glasses, called Narbis, could help train your brain to stay on task."You wear these glasses while you’re reading, studying, doing homework, working on the computer, any stationary activity, and the glasses will instantly change tint as soon as you lose focus and become distracted," said Devon Greco, the CEO & Founder of Narbis. The glasses become clear again once they determine you are focused. They use three sensors and an armband to track your attention by measuring your brain waves. The glasses are typically worn for about 30 minutes at a time a few times a week.Narbis' founder said these glasses have proven in clinical trials to help kids with ADHD improve their focus."We had a number of kids who were diagnosed [with ADHD] and on medication, and they wore our glasses for a few times a week while they did their homework," Greco said. "In as short as 20 training sessions, many of them were taken off of medication."He also says this can help more than just kids who are diagnosed with ADHD."When we look at what’s going on today, I think it’s fair to say we are somewhat experiencing an attention epidemic," said Greco. At the end of each session, the Narbis Tablet gives feedback on how well the user is doing and what progress they are making with improving their ability to pay attention. The tablet has three types of sessions on it called Focus, Performance, and Calm Focus. There are different difficulty levels too, and the user can set the time limit for how long they would like to use them the smart glasses for.The Narbis smart glasses can be pre-ordered on their website right now and they are expected to start shipping this month. This story originally reported by Jordan Hogan on Fox13now.com. 1931

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, who previously said she would not vote to confirm any nominee to fill the Supreme Court vacancy prior to the 2020 presidential election, said on Saturday that she would vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett.Murkowski was one of only two Republican senators who expressed any hesitancy in confirming Barrett to the Supreme Court. Because the Republican caucus holds a 53-47 voting edge in the Senate, Barrett's nomination would have likely passed without Murkowski's support.Earlier on Saturday, Murkowski voted no on procedural votes required prior to Monday's planned full Senate vote on Barrett's confirmation on Monday. In a speech on the floor of the Senate, Murkowski said she was opposed to the process, not the judge."While I oppose the process that has led us to this point, I do not hold it against her as an individual who has navigated the gauntlet with grace, skill and humility," Murkowski said, according to CBS.Since the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in September, Murkowski has opposed filling her seat until after the election.“I’ve shared for a while that I didn’t think we should be taking this up until after the election, and I haven’t changed,” she told Politico on Thursday. In 2016, the Republican-controlled Senate blocked then-President Barack Obama's nominee to fill a Supreme Court seat vacated by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia for more than seven months, saying it was too close to a presidential election and that the American people should decide who should fill the seat.Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is the only other Republican who has signaled she may vote against Barrett's confirmation. It's currently unclear how she will vote. This story is breaking and will be updated. 1760
