(KGTV) — An El Cajon Popeyes location has been approved to reopen after county health officials deemed the location an "imminent health hazard," forcing a temporary closure.Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 110 Jamacha Rd. was closed this week after an inspection by the county Department of Environmental Health (DEH) on Jan. 21, 2020 found a cockroach infestation, according to the notice. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — President Donald Trump says the United Arab Emirates and Israel will establish diplomatic ties in a deal that would halt the planned annexation of occupied land sought by the Palestinians for their future state. The announcement by Trump came in a tweet on Thursday, which states leaders from the three countries "spoke today and agreed to the full normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates."This agreement means the UAE, which is home to the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, would become the first Gulf Arab state to have ties to Israel. (KGTV) - A pair of Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets from an El Cajon high school are turning heads for their achievements.It has been 19 years since a student from Grossmont High School was appointed to military service academy and the class of 2018 has two who received multiple appointments.John Flaherty and Nicholas Ghosn earned four appointments in total.Flaherty was nominated to West Point and the United States Merchant Marine Academy while Ghosn earned them to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.“I was on top of the world,” said Flaherty describing the moment he got the call he was being appointed, “it was everything I dreamed of since I was four-years-old.”Flaherty is attending West Point and Ghosn will head to Annapolis at the end of their summer.Nicholas Ghosn says it was bittersweet to get the nod from the U.S. Navy.“All I ever wanted was to go to that college and join the ranks of the officer corps in the Navy, but I knew I was going to be away from my family and friends and home,” said Ghosn, “it’s going to be a long time before I get to see them so I was kind of sad because I knew this was it.”The 17-year-olds grew up a mile and a half from each other in Spring Valley and played sports together.“It’s unprecedented,” said Gunnery Master Sgt. Donald Trump attended an August 2015 meeting that federal prosecutors believe was central to a criminal scheme to violate campaign finance laws to help Trump win the presidency, according to a source familiar with the matter.According to court filings, Trump was joined by Michael Cohen, who was his attorney at the time, and David Pecker, the chairman of American Media Inc., parent company of the National Enquirer.During the meeting, the group discussed a plan to shield Trump from potentially damaging stories. Prosecutors say this amounted to illegal donations to Trump's campaign.Trump's attendance was first reported by the Wall Street Journal in a November article. The meeting returned to the spotlight Wednesday when federal prosecutors announced that they agreed not to prosecute AMI for campaign finance violations in exchange for its cooperation.The newspaper reported that Trump asked Pecker what he could do to help his presidential campaign.Federal prosecutors in Manhattan mentioned the meeting when they charged Cohen over the summer with two campaign finance violations. Those crimes related to hush-money payments to two women who alleged affairs with Trump. For his part, Trump has denied the affairs.Prosecutors also described the meeting in the AMI agreement, which became public Wednesday.That document said Cohen, Pecker, and "one or more members of the campaign" met in August 2015. At that meeting, "Pecker offered to help deal with negative stories about that presidential candidate's relationships with women by, among other things, assisting the campaign in identifying such stories so they could be purchased, and their publication avoided."AMI now admits that after that meeting, Pecker agreed to "keep Cohen appraised" of negative stories about Trump. With that smoke comes bad air quality, not just for those near the fires, but for the entire continent.Satelite images from NASA shows smoke thousands of miles from the fire. NASA says the smoke contains aerosols, a combination of particles which carry harmful things into the air and into your lungs. All the things that are burning, trees, grass, brush, homes, are turned into soot and absorbed by our lungs.“This pollution, nobody knows how badly it will be affected but if we extrapolate from previous air quality it's not good,” Dr. Malik Baz, the medical director at the Baz Allergy and Sius Center, said. “The long-term side effect, we’ll see many, many years down the line.”Baz’s operates 13 locations in California, all of them are busy as Central California is essentially a big bowl surrounded by mountains which trap pollution over the valley. Air quality is always an issue for this part of the state and fires multiply the problem.“People with respiratory, allergy, asthma, ,sinus problem, anytime the air quality goes bad, their symptoms get worse,” Baz said. “It affects them but this air quality, it doesn’t matter whether you have respiratory problems or not, everyone is affected.”It's bad in other western cities too."This is really an unprecedented wildfire season in 2020,” said Jon Klassen, director of air quality science and planning for San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. “We have fires across most of the states in the western US, Washington, Oregon, California, Seattle. Portland has some of the worst air quality in the world right now, which is shocking because normally they have pretty good air quality."Klassen’s job is to monitor and improve air quality and help reduce emissions.“Those sorts of emissions can come off of wildfires or different industrial sources, the burning of different material, and the challenge and the health challenge is that because it’s so small, it can get into your lungs, your bloodstream, cause damage to internal organs,” Klassen said.A good air quality index score is anywhere from 0 to 50. Some of the cities next to the fires are seeing numbers in the 400s or 500s. California, Klassen says, has had fires burn 3.4 million acres. That's larger than the state of Connecticut as a whole. And that smoke from the western United States isn't just staying local.“Just the enormous amount of emissions that are going into the atmosphere can get caught up in transport flow from the Pacific over to the Atlantic,” Klassen said. “It can slowly cross the content and into different parts of the country, which is what we’re observing right now.”Which means use the "see and smell" rule, and watch the air quality index wherever you are.Sometimes that air can make you feel bad, and doctors advise you watch your symptoms.“[Symptoms include] lethargy, coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, irritation of the eyeballs, sneezing, itching, nasal congestion, headaches,” Baz said. These are also the symptoms of COVID-19, which makes some problems hard to diagnose.If your air quality isn't good, Baz suggests staying in, avoiding strenuous exercise outside, changing the filters in your home and car and keeping up on your medications and hydration.And while fires aren't forever, we are unfortunately just starting a season that's shaping up to be unprecedented.“The concern here is we are in the middle of wildfire season,” Baz said. “The past few years, the season has ended in November and we’re in September, so we’ll have a couple months left to go with these fires.” 3678
