Bank of America announced on Tuesday that they plan to stop lending money to companies that make assault-style guns used for non-military purposes.During an interview on Bloomberg television, Bank of America Vice Chairman Anne Finucane said, “It’s not our intent to underwrite or finance military-style firearms on a go-forth basis.”According to Finucane, the firm has had “intense conversations over the last few months” with those kinds of gun manufacturers to let them know "it's our intention not to finance these military-style firearms for civilian use."According to CNBC, the bank is a lender to Vista Outdoor, Remington and Sturm Ruger. The move comes as part of a national movement addressing gun control that was put into motion after a gunman opened fire on a Florida high school killing 17 people. Mary Stringini is a Digital Reporter for ABC Action News. BRUCE, Wis. -- A school district in Wisconsin has made the decision to ban backpacks after multiple threats were discovered this week.WEAU-TV in Eau Claire, Wisconsin reports that a BB gun and several knives were located in a backpack at a school in Bruce Wednesday after a student scratched graffiti on a bathroom stall door. That student was taken into custody and has been suspended indefinitely.Earlier in the week, on Monday, there was a separate incident involving 'violent threats' made toward the school, WEAU says. With those threats in mind, Bruce Public Schools announced in a call to parents that backpacks would no longer be allowed at either the middle school or high school."Due the circumstances this week, no backpacks are allowed in middle school and high school as recommended by the sheriff’s department. All athletic gym bags will be searched before entering school," the district said in a Facebook post. The district's superintendent tells WEAU that in addition to the backpack ban, there will be a new entrance procedure when students comes back from spring break as well.  1123

BARCELONA -- For adventure-seekers and travelers, the pandemic has put a damper on outdoor excursions. But for one filmmaker in Barcelona, a canceled family ski trip turned into an opportunity to bring adventure home to his living room.Philipp Klein Herrero is fanatical about skiing.“I am always skiing,” he said. “It's my passion.”So, when the pandemic lockdown forced him to cancel a long-planned family ski trip to France, the filmmaker decided to create a video for them.“I wanted to send them love from where I am and that's how the idea came about.”He taped a GoPro to his ceiling and cleared the room, bringing to life the adventure of a lifetime – on his living room floor.“It starts with me waking up on the side of the mountain in my sleeping bag and having my skis right next to me,” he said. “Once, it gets too steep to walk I switch into ice-climbing mode.”Over the next six and a half hours Klein painstakingly captured this stop-motion odyssey – one frame at a time. He used bed sheets for the side of the mountain.“And of course, nowadays the first thing you do when you reach the summit is you cheer and then take some selfies,” he said. The 57 second film has gone viral, making international headlines.“It just went absolutely crazy from there on,” he said.Klein says his only true desire was to spread a message of hope, inspiring others in challenging times. When asked what the most important thing that he wants people to take away from watching his video, he said that we all have to stay positive.“We have a tricky situation among us, and we literally don’t know how it’s going to end up, but it’s within us to make the best out of it.”He’s proving adventure can be found just about anywhere. 1724

Before arriving for jury duty on Monday, prospective panel members filled out a lengthy questionnaire that might have given them pause."The case for which you are summoned involves the defendant JOAQUIN ARCHIVALDO GUZMAN LOERA, also known as 'El Chapo,' " read query No. 48. "Have you read, seen or heard anything about the defendant, the case, or people involved?"It would be hard not to."In some ways, this case is unprecedented; the amount of public attention has been extraordinary," Brooklyn U.S. District Court Judge Brian Cogan wrote in a recent ruling. That will be a major challenge when jury selection begins on Monday for Mexican cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.Everything is extraordinary in the long-awaited case against a defendant once considered the world's most powerful drug trafficker. The international scope of an alleged criminal enterprise that spanned continents "makes it an outlier among even the biggest drug prosecutions to date," Cogan wrote last week. 993

Billions in business pass back and forth between the United States and Mexico. A new trade agreement to manage that trade kicks in this week. “You know, we were doing anywhere between 30 and 30 plus billion dollars worth of cross border trade here in the last five, six, seven years, I think that that number is only poised to increase," Jaime Chamberlain told KGUN. Chamberlain owns Chamberlain Distributing, a packing house that brings tons of produce from Mexico and he chairs the port authority for Santa Cruz County, Arizona. The USMCA, the US, Mexico, Canada Agreement that officially kicks in this week replaces NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement and does things like modernizing record keeping for the digital age.Chamberlain says cross border trade does not mean U.S. jobs going to Mexico. He says, It’s a two-way highway that helps both sides.“There's a tremendous amount of American products going into Mexico. In fact, the majority of the raw products going into make a lot of the products coming out of Mexico especially out of the Maquila industry are American based companies that are supplying that raw product into Mexico.”Josh Rubin’s company Javid LLC/Javid De Mexico operates many of those Maquilas--factories U.S. companies operate in Mexico. He says, “I represent 27 different facilities over 3500 employees here in Nogales, Mexico, for our customers.”Customs charges are based on where a product is made. Rubin says one of the challenges under USMCA is defining country of origins when the parts come from all over the world. He holds up a pen as an example as says, “The metal from the pen might come from one country or from one location, the spring might come from another location, the plastic around the pen might come from somewhere else that he might come from somewhere else.”Rubin says some companies may feel they’re better off just paying ordinary customs duties and avoid record keeping and other requirements of USMCA, especially if they make small items that result in small customs fees. There is an element of wait and see for some companies especially as US Customs and Border Protection works out exactly how it will enforce the new trade rules. This story originally reported by Craig Smith on KGUN9.com. 2263
