SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A surveillance photo released by the FBI and San Diego Police Tuesday may help them find the man who robbed a Clairemont bank.The white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, demanded cash from a teller at the Wells Fargo Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 4725 Clairemont Drive in Clairemont Town Centere on December 30.Police said the man used a note and no weapon was seen or used.The teller gave the man cash and he walked away.Investigators describe the man as about 5’11” with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, white shirt, red shorts, black sneakers and a baseball cap at the time of the robbery.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police. 713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A small stretch of Old Town's main road will be closed to cars from Thursdays through Sundays for the rest of 2020 to help area restaurants serve outdoors safely.The move is meant to help the region survive as it enters the purple tier of coronavirus restrictions, which outlaws indoor dining.San Diego Avenue, from Arista to Linwood, will no longer be available to vehicle traffic in the afternoons and evenings on Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 27. While most of Old Town has been able to offer outdoor dining with adequate social distancing, the restaurants on the southernmost portion of the historic park have not had as much space to work with.Pietro Busalacchi, who opened Trattoria Don Pietro in August, said cars sometimes speed down the street, near outdoor diners. Additionally, the sidewalk near the tables is narrow and large groups without masks walk too close to diners. It turns him from restaurateur to security officer. "Once they've walked halfway through the restaurant if they're not wearing a mask I'm like, 'hey you know, can you throw a mask on?' It's too late at that point and also some people look at you like, 'don't tell me what to do,'" Busalacchi said. The Old Town Chamber of Commerce arranged with the city for the closure, which it experimented with earlier this year. After two months back to normal, it decided the closure was the right way to go. "The pandemic really changed a lot for our businesses, so we had to give each request a shot and we decided to close the street again," said Sunny Lee, the chamber's executive director.Lee said if the coronavirus restrictions persist into 2021, Old Town would seek to extend its closure with the city. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After five days of crews battling flames, the USS Bonhomme Richard ship fire is extinguished. The day after the flames subsided, Navy Admiral Mike Gilday came to San Diego to see the damage for himself and meet the sailors and crews who had battled the fire.“The main takeaway for me this morning was really the people, and we outta be proud of them, and the parents of these sailors outta be proud of them,” said Gilday.Related: Navy officials say all known fires aboard USS Bonhomme Richard are outHe said he met with about 150 people Friday morning to hear their stories of what it was like to fight the fire from the inside. Crews battled temperatures that hit 1000 degrees, even getting as hot as 1200 degrees at one point. He spoke specifically about meeting one petty officer who told him her training on how to fight a fire from the beginning is what prepared her for the battle this past week.“That training set the foundation for the way she operated and behaved and acted over the past several days. She was very proud of what she did and the teamwork that was involved,” he said.He added that two of the factors that made it difficult to put out the fire were the high winds and the explosions.“This fire probably couldn’t have been at a worse point on this ship in terms of its source that allowed it to spread up elevator shafts as an example, up exhaust stacks,” he said, adding that “there were times when he had to back those firefighters off the ship. At one point the explosion was so great that it blew the debris across the pier and onto the ship that was across the way.”The Admiral also talked about what’s next for the ship. He said the next steps are doing a safety investigation, a criminal investigation (which he added is typical), a command investigation to look at the procedures in place and what crews did right or wrong, and finally an assessment of the structural, mechanical and electrical damage, which will be done with the help of the people who built and know the ship.The Navy has not decided if the USS Bonhomme Richard will be recovered.“I am 100% confident that our defense industry can put this ship back to sea, but the question is should we make that investment in a 22-year-old ship,” said the Admiral.A spokesperson for the Navy confirmed that the flames have all been extinguished, but crews continue to watch for hot spots popping up. 2411

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Southern California athlete said his life was changed forever from a stem cell product he said came from a San Diego company. “It’s been tough. And it’s still tough,” said Alex Reyes. Team 10 interviewed Reyes at a San Bernardino park, where he took a few moments to play with his young children. Those are the moments he treasures because last year, even holding his kids was something he could not do. “I couldn’t walk for about three and a half to four weeks. I was on a bedpan. It was one of the hardest things I had to go through in my life,” Reyes said.This is coming from a man used to taking punches. He has several accomplishments in mixed martial arts, including King of the Cage Junior Welterweight and Lightweight Champion, as well as the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Absolute Purple Belt Champion. Reyes was signed to the UFC back in September of 2017 to compete in the Lightweight Division. In the UFC, he was known as the Executioner. “It was just the beginning for me,” Reyes said.He started doing stem cell injections last year to help with an old back injury. “It was kind of nagging,” he told Team 10.The first one he tried went well. “It helps regenerate the tissue… there was improvement, and I felt better,” he said. The second time, Reyes said he went to a different clinic in Las Vegas in June 2018. According to his lawsuit, the product used was from the ReGen Series?, developed and manufactured by Genetech. Genetech is not related to the biotechnology company Genentech.“After I got the injection a few days later, I couldn’t walk anymore, I couldn’t stand I couldn’t sit, I couldn’t move. It was really bad,” Reyes said. The lawsuit states patients from all over the country used the Genetech stem cell products from the ReGen Series?, but there were problems. The court documents show Health Departments in Texas and Florida received notification of bacteria in patients who received those injections. Genetech, which used to operate at a building on Bunker Hill Street on the edge of Pacific Beach, is now closed. However, federal regulators are currently looking into the company’s operations. A letter issued late last year by the Federal Drug Administration warned Genetech about several violations with “potential serious risks to patients.” The FDA and Centers for Disease Control are aware of at least 12 patients who received Genetech products. According to the FDA warning issued in late 2018, the federal agencies “have received numerous reports of safety issues including those involving microbial contamination… and subsequently became ill due to blood and other infections caused by bacteria, including Escherichia coli (E. coli).”“I was really terrified,” said Alex’s wife, Rosalie Reyes. “I didn’t know what to think. Is he dying? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A suspect accused of stabbing a man multiple times in a San Diego airport parking lot was nabbed at the border this week.San Diego Harbor Police said Alberto Moreno Jauregui, 18, was arrested Monday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in connection with the stabbing that occurred on Oct. 28 in San Diego International Airport's economy parking lot.RELATED: Man stabbed while defending wife during attempted carjacking at San Diego International AirportPolice said Jauregui, armed with a knife, approached a man and woman in the process of loading their vehicle, before grabbing the woman around her neck and demanding the keys to the vehicle. The man intervened, leading to a fight.During the fight, Jauregui stabbed the man multiple times before fleeing the scene, police said.The man was brought to a nearby hospital and treated. The woman was not injured.Jauregui was booked into San Diego County Jail and charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, attempted carjacking and serious bodily injury.Jauregui is being held on no bail and is due in court on Nov. 9. 1112
