Starting a business together was an idea they had kicked around for years, but never had the time to flesh it out. "I feel a lot freer than I did a few months ago. Doing what I love, like on my own time, creating my own dishes and being financially sustained. It’s awesome.”According to data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau, across the country, there have been at least 3.2 million new business applications filed this year. This time last year, that number was around 2.7 million.“It is hard to know at the moment as to whether or not this trend that we have seen, that is very discernible, is going to continue and it is hard to know exactly what the real impact over time is going to be,” said John Dearie, founder of the Center for American Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C.Dearie believes new businesses like Sweet Pickle Books and Pasta Packs have an uphill battle. AZUSA (CNS) - A 600-acre brush fire was burning close to houses in Azusa Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations for the Mountain Cove community.The Ranch Fire was reported about 2:45 p.m. near North San Gabriel Canyon Road and North Ranch Road, according to the Azusa Police Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which called in a second-alarm response.The blaze was initially burning uphill in medium to heavy brush, and by 4:30 p.m., the fire had grown to 600 acres with no containment.At 3:30 p.m., mandatory evacuation orders were issued for Mountain Cove residents who live south of Highwood Court, according to the Azusa Police Department. ATLANTA, GA. – The prevalence of adult obesity is increasing in the United States, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).The CDC said Thursday that its 2019 Adult Obesity Prevalence Maps show that 12 states now have an obesity prevalence at or above 35%. Those states include Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. This is up from nine states in 2018 and six states in 2017.The data also shows that racial and ethnic disparities still persist across the nation.A total of 34 states and Washington D.C. had an obesity prevalence of 35% or higher among non-Hispanic Black adults, 15 states had a prevalence of 35% or higher among Hispanic adults, and six states had a prevalence of 35% or higher among non-Hispanic white adults.Addressing the prevalence of obesity in America is more important than ever, because the CDC says obese adults are at heightened risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19.
